Me neither. Such a great little riff. Been playing it on a loop today.
Never properly met him but he’s a mate of a few bods I know. Had forgotten the sad news about Virgil till I started googling today too. Bummer.

Really sweet bloke and a scary good player. Shame the Scream gig pays peanuts, he deserves top dorrah for putting up with Gillespie...

Yeah I used to go and see them play the toilet circuit via a mutual friend who gave me an advance copy of the first album. Think I played a festival with them once too. Secret Garden! Waaaay bitd. Kind of forgot about them for a while but twigging the Better Call Saul thing was him got me digging out loads of old stuff. Never really met but have heard him noodling about in Angel music a few times. He's unbelievable.

See what I have to put up with...

I've created something awful...
I'm currently building a Les Paul, but having spent the past few years building Fender guitars, wanted to check that I knew what I was doing about neck angles, mortices and carved tops (especially given the price of some of the wood I've bought). So...
...here's an MDF topped Les Paul, with an eight piece body made of framing lumber :)
This is about as far as I'm going to take this one; I'll move onto the real thing next... Vaguely tempted to try and get some strings on it somehow, but I'll probably just burn it instead :)

Filthy. Would love to hear it. Must weigh a ton shirly?
-
• #5808
Doesn't feel too bad, but it's missing a lot of stuff compared to a finished one. Mind you, the only thing similar I've ever owned to compare was an Epiphone about 15 years ago. I remember that weighed an absolute tonne.
I think the stuff I made the body out is more air than wood. You can flex it with your thumb :)

Gah, lost the capo I've used for the past decade. Can't remember the make, or even what it looked like...
What's good? Dunlop?
Anyone used the Fender Smart Capo?

I've always been a Shubb guy, had a brass one for years... It works!

I have tried just about every model under the sun as I use one a lot and regularly get pissed after gigs and lose them. Used Shubbs for years then went kerrazy and tried a few different Dunlop and Kyser trigger ones cos i liked the headstock storage... but the big old trigger bit can get in the way and the lack of adjustment means they can pull some guitars out of tune.
I recently tried a fancy pants G# one which I quite liked because low profile and you could easy apply and remove and clamp on the headstock with one hand. But it was quite ugly and I either lent it to someone or lost it... am still using whatever's lying around but my fave is the old brass shubb.
Not tried the Fender one.

It’s time.
A decade since we drove home from Berlin after our final ever 11 nation euro tour. We split up due to musical similarities and an urge to live in entirely different continents, instead of living in a merc splitter watching the Danzig singles collection or Alan Partridge.
So I’ve a 2001 ish Femder Jazz standard bass; ash & maple - 34 inch neck. It’s a thing of solid beauty and was the main bass for recording & touring. It’s graced the main stage of Reading & Leeds, Fuji Rocks and every uk & European toilet venue possible.
Mike Kellie used it once, and Kate Moss grabbed it back from a crackhead chancer during the libertines support band years. I’ve also hit Brian Molko with it. That was satisfying.
Despite this, my Bill Wyman stage style means that it’s in good nick- with the usual belt rub, and one small dent in the back which happened when I was knocked out whilst playing in a wrestling ring by a dwarf Mexican wrestler. Blame Sean McClusky for that and for Joeboxers.
Comes with the tweed hard case, unused bridge covers and receipts etc. Bought from Tin Pan Alley when that was still a thing.
Second is an Ibanez artcore semi hollow body bass in tobacco. It was the rehearsal guitar - the neck is wider so makes anything else afterwards feel like you’re playing a thin necked Danelectro. With an over drive pedal your The Birthday Party / Cure dreams come true.
On top of that is all the bits; a Boss tu3 tuner, a sans amp DI v2 box which replaces any need for an stage amp unless your lead guitarist is a twat. Which is always, so it’s a great fuzz, overdrive thing & recording staple for the eq,. Plus a bag full of super long leads which I think we only bought for a cheap gag at Bath Moles where we were supporting razorlight and got to the point where we couldn’t be in the same room as them so had leads long enough to play upstairs whilst the stage was in the basement. I think it was funny at the time. I don’t think out drummer did.
I’ve no real idea about the guitar values, so talk to me. Are they in the hinterland of untrendy, where is best to sell them - reverb, ads in studios or gumtree / eBay?
Forum % on sale price obviously and I’m keeping the thunderbird for the occasional home windmill and potential band reforming cash in tour. Shed Seven watch your backs... still strangely big in Japan though according to the £0.32 Spotify royalty cheque I got last month.

I'm interested in the Jazz Bass but also no idea on prices. Once you work out what's fair let me know and I'll give it some thought.

Will do.

iPhone photos...
Luckily, the small dings appear to be just in the lacquer and nothing else. Slight ping on the first fret as outlined in the ad kerfuffle mentioned above. Just had a moment of 'i should keep this' when i had a quick play. I should not keep this!

Anyways, before I drift off into nostalgia. It's in Herne Hill so if anyone wants to come and try it out, please feel free. No amp here any more though, but I guess I could DI it into the stereo.

why are you selling them? just keep them, man.
i've sold guitars in the past and instantly regretted it.

Read the ad above - they should be used, not left getting dusty, and I'm not using them.
If I want to play a guitar again, I'll buy a knock off jazz and a Rickenbacker.

Those are lovely, Chris, not normally a fan of the block/bound natural necks on Fender basses but that one is gorgeous... That Ibanez is pretty sexy too...

Verrrry nice dude.

Word. There's nothing sadder than an unplayed instrument.
Beautiful bass btw. I think I'm too much of a colour dork and would like a paintjob so I'm out, but I'm sure someone will snap your arm off.
I had no idea that was him, he's a really lovely chap... Used to chat to him all the time when he worked in Vintage & Rare...
