Where do you stand on G&L? Funny headstock, but Leo did it... I think their entry-level stuff is supposed to be good. In a funny way it's more Leo because Fender's had so many reincarnations.

Oh now that’s very nice indeed.
That green affinity hh I posted pics of is a bit closer to home but might send that chap a message and see if he’d consider shipping. It definitely seems that when I reach the point where the cash is burning a hole in my pocket there'll be plenty of choice.
This is the CV hss I spotted on fb marketplace, would be happy with that as well.
I do love the forum hive-mind giving me a crazy number of options though.

These are really good looking too on a Fender x HH vibe.

Haha now you’re just twisting my melon! But yes, they do look rather nice.
Anyway, enough of this for now, I need to go meet some folks for dinner. -

Holy balls I didn’t know they existed. Very nice indeed.
Will stand firm on the £250 max budget at this point. The only way I’d go a bit over is if I was buying off a forumenger ;) -

And etc and so on
(Made in Indonesia too which is usually preferable to the Chinese-made Squiers)

Lol I messaged him after a few beers the other night, collection only.

pop down the following weekend for the brighton guitar show and get talked into something really silly

Where do the Chinese-made Fenders sit in the quality hierarchy?
-
• #14837
Are there Chinese made Fenders?
In terms of Squier they’re generally the cheapest but they are broadly “fine for the money”, they can just vary a bit in my experience.
Not sure if it’s comparable to the MIJ/CIJ factory differences.
My Squier JM is I think Indonesian and actually had more obvious QC / finishing flaws but feels, plays and sounds much better than an entry level Sonic/Affinity.

That looks totally rad

Haven't Squier got some new Paranormal models just out too?
Edit: yep. Ice blue Jaguar body with Tele bridge, a P90 neck pickup and rosewood fingerboard with block inlays. Matching painted headstock. Tempted, tbh.

I also spied a squier strat with tele style headstock, pickguard and control plate on eBay which was pretty neat but at the same time really jarring.
Presume that was a previous paranormal edition.

Proper parts bin build, that. They were so concerned with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think whether they should.
-
• #14842
Yeah that one is pretty odd. It’s based on the shape of the '54 P-bass IIRC, which has that Strat-ish shape with a Tele style headstock.

My current obsession is MIJ Jazzmasters and Strats btw.

MIJ Jazzmaster owner, would recommend!
@edmundro it's pretty crazy what £250 can buy you these days to be fair. Only piece of advice I'd give about buying in that range is to try the guitar out. While there are some actual diamonds to b e unearthed, QC and consistency of both parts/woods and manufacturing can be all over the place. Easier said than done of course, but I'd rather 250 a guitar I can try out than 200 one that's being posted!

That’s some sage advice right there.
Never bought a guitar in a shop before, is it normal to pick an instrument then have them set the string height etc and get it set up just right? I’m sure if you’re spending £10k+ they’ll be bending over to offer that service but on a squier I’m guessing you pay the going rate for their workshop? For now I’ll keep relearning on my Swinger, if nothing else the added challenge of my stupid ignorant fingers learning on a neck sized for kids will hopefully make things easier when the right guitar comes along.

I deeply regret selling this one... I love the guitar I bought instead and still have it but wish I had both.
Need another Jazzmaster in the future.

Identical to mine except for a tortoiseshell pickguard! 👌

Saw this the other day, very unusual and lovely spec.

Yeah that just looks like fret grime to me. Would be satisfying to clean if it was your own but I feel like I'd find it rank scraping off someone else's sludge.
This is in Sheffield, don’t know if the seller could be persuaded to ship.

The Contemporary Squiers are roughly CV quality and a level above Sonic/Affinity. They generally have flatter fingerboards, humbuckers etc. Some of them even have a Floyd Rose.
