  • Came here to say you're buying it anyway, right?

In other news, the shielding is under way...

  • And the tuners are back on the headstock. Filed away the fret sprout too, which is harder to show so I won't bother.

Removing the pickups from the scratchplate revealed the little rubber mounting tubing is all utterly knackered (they're the little broken brown bits you can see above the body in the picture above), so I've ordered some replacements. With any luck, I might have this finished by the end of the month.

  • Good work there. ^^

  • The Rat had already been nabbed btw. Ah well.

  • Ah crud. I was excited for you!

  • heh! so was I!

I'm debating getting a better delay/echo pedal. I don't often use delay as an effect, but I do like a bit of slap-back on hand for 50s stuff and a more psychy space-echo style thing from time to time. Anyone tried the Space Echo pedals? Or can anyone recommend something?

My ideal pedal would be a 2 in 1 delay so I could set one side to a nice slap and the other to a dubby psych high-repeat thing. Doesn't seem to be a lot out there that does that tho.

  • Short of something like a Strymon Timeline or Dig, or a Boss DD-500, a TC Electronic Flashback X4 might work?

I use a Timeline, but I’m desperately tempted to trade it in for an RE-202

  • That looks excellent - no hint that it's been refinished at all.

  • The Pearl ad33 does the double delay thing. Sound awesome if you like analog delay

  • Ah, cheers. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. If you look really closely, there's a tiny speck of dust that got stuck in the top layer of the finish and I couldn't be arsed going through the sanding and spraying again, so have left it as is. You have to be less than a foot away from the guitar to see it, though. As for the decal, it looks factory fitted. No lines around it like there were with the fake Fender decal.

Now can't wait to get the pickup mounting height tubing delivered so I can put the whole thing back together, set it up properly and see whether the shielding has worked.

  • Yeah, Eventide Time Factor is a double (digital) delay which you can configure as two separate delays in exactly that way. But it's expensive and probably overkill. Sure I've seen a more recent, smaller pedal that has two separate delays in one but I can't for the life of me think of what it was.

I usually have my Carbon Copy Mini set as a slapback and use a Boss/Waza DM-2w for longer psych/dubby delay. Maybe with the latter you'd want something you can control the feedback on with an expression pedal though? The DM-2w only has delay time controllable via expression input (thought that might suit you if you only ever want one or the other). I've seen the Strymon Deco used as a dubby tape echo with feedback on the expression and it seems to sound ace, but £££.

  • Thanks for the tips. Some intergoogling seems to suggest that this is exactly what I want. https://reverb.com/item/60336970-mad-professor-dual-blue-delay?bk=

  • Just had a rush of blood to the head and ordered that Mad Professor. It's not as hip as the RE-202 for sure, but it basically does everything I want with a simple interface and it has good reviews.

  • Those are basically my delay needs too. The MP looks good.

Another option was the old BBE Two Timer but that was only a four-knobber without separate levels/repeats and thus probably a bit of a pain.

  • Please could I ask for advice?

I've got an old Squier Telecaster which I'm planning to sell as it's just gathering dust.

I'm not sure about the value, and besides, I'm still useless as a player and honestly I can't tell the difference between a good guitar and a bad one.

S/N is CN6060677 which says it's Korean-made Tele by Cor-tec. It's quite thick and heavy, and it sounds good (to me) -)

  • Tidy little rig that! I'm afraid i'm hopelessly ut of touch with the various flavours of Squire and what they go for these days. They seem to start from around £100 for a s/h affinity (which i think is the bottom of the range) and go well into what i'd consider Fender money. Maybe have a looky on here. https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=squier%20tele&condition=used

  • Thank you, the great resource is that!

This looks exactly like my Tele. The heads are different but AFAIK they were replaced by the previous owner

  • What's happened to the Squier decal on it? (I'm a bit obsessed with these currently).

  • Ooh ooh. New pedal day... c'mon postie!

EDIT: I literally just posted this and the postie knocked. Woot!

EDIT 2: It's good! really simple to use and sounds great. Happy boy.

  • ^dullest review ever. Soz. Busy day .

  • Heh. Looks good. Can you turn the two delays on/off separately? Is it the mode switch doing that, like cycling through short only > long only > both on?

  • @stelfox did you end up finding anyone/trying out the chap at Creation? I also live in Hornsey and my Jazzmaster might just be due some much needed TLC, so curious to know...!

  • Yeah, it’s taking me a while to get my head round but basically: right button is on/off and right is one to flick between short and long, or hold to have both in parallel. Another single click brings it back to just one . There’s some more witchcraft involving tap tempo and multi-head shenanigans that I haven’t quite got working consistently yet… it’s all too clever for me.

  • Also, I need a smaller tremolo pedal. And to get some sort of a/b/y splitter so I can put my tuner back in a more normal spot.

Also going to try moving the compressor back after the gain pedals. Maybe.

  • Dunno how small you need, or if you want a harmonic trem option, but the Jam Harmonious Monk sounds so good. Much, much better than the newish MXR tremolo (which is digital).

The TPS branding is cringe so I bought one of their custom art ones.

JHS Tidewater is smaller and cheaper for a fender-style tremolo.
