Mahogony acoustic
Pics and info please. I've been deeply desirous of a cedar top/ mahogany acoustic again. I have a Takamine EGS330SC that I've had for about twenty years that one of my best mates practically has squatters rights on and I've always meant to replace it but can't figure out what to replace it with other than a Lowden/ McIlroy and that hasn't happened because ¥¥¥.

I so want a mahogany Martin 000-15M one day. Sounds so good in demos.

I got one about 4 years ago. I enjoy playing it, and it’s done wonders for my finger picking, but you really need to dig in to get something out. I think I need a D-18 to go with it.

Bill Dufferton might be a bit of a fanny but the man had great taste in guitars

Stick a set of P90s or mini-humbuckers in that and I'd be all over it!

Would anyone here be able to make use of a power transformer and converter? They allow you to run North American and Japanese electronics on 240v. Ideal for things like guitar amps and synths. Free to good home, collection from E10. I might be able to post, but they're heavy. I've got two of each.

Also have found a Talman and small amp for £150 on FB, seller based in Hereford so not too far from me.
Have just moved house and Christmas approaching so can’t afford it but bargain. Will find the link and I could collect and bring to London.
Super nice, thanks for the offer. I'll PM you.

Ok.
So I’ve moved to the Isle of Harris. I know mad sod.
But I’ve been asked to be in a band. Mainly for my singing but also because I know which end of a guitar to hold.
I sold my US Std Strat to move to Bristol because I hadn’t played it for yonks 3 years ago. Been playing my old Washburn acoustic since. But I need amplification ! So. I need a new electric guitar and an amp. Yay !
But what to get ? I am a strummer not a twiddler and I want to lay down a decent rythym. The shortlist is :-
GUITAR
GRetsch Streamliner G2620 hollow body
Gretsch G2622 semi hollow
Or the Electromatic versions of each
Epiphone Dot
PRS SE Custom Semi Hollow
Or
Some sort of Tele
Or Some sort of LP (so many options !)Amp
Champ 100
Blues Junior
Blues DevilleAnyone got any thoughts / suggestions / experiences and preferences ??

Nice! what kind of stuff are you gonna be playing?
Don't know much about those Gretches. Would say that all the Electromatics i've played have felt and sounded cheap. Shame because they look the business. EDIT: just looked them up and as a first impression they look and sound decent!
I'm a tele guy personally so would probably be looking for a s/h 50 or 60 reissue but that's just me.
For the amp, I'd take the Blues Junior from that list all day long. Again depends on your needs and experience to some extent, but for the straight up, best sounding clean to mildly unclean basic tone, I'd take the Blues Jnr every time. I'd also look at AC15s reissues.

Thanks mate. Playing a mixed bunch of stuff. Blues, but of rock and some jazzy stuff. Mack The knife through to Life on Mars. Hence the mix of options. Tele is tempting but those Gretsch’s look incredible. Part of the problem is I can’t test ride any of them. There is no music shop on the island and I can’t get off at the moment.

gretsch all day long but then again i would say that.
they look and sound great! and not too spenny either.
this might be worth a watch so long as you can put up with "we have ed sheerans at home!" ed sheerans.

My 2022 commitment is to play guitar more, i stopped playing for about 10 years and the last few months have been taken to playing an hour or so a couple times a week, in my old PRS but i have no amp and i’m finding playing it unplugged rather unsatisfying.
What amp do i buy? Ill never gig, it will only be used in my office, but im a buy once and never feel the need to buy again kind of person.
don’t need flashy modern features, happy to buy used, maybe £500? more if it makes sense..

Yeah I’d be very tempted to land on a Telecaster Custom or maybe a thinline. Or… any good Tele really.

Dirty or clean? I keep banging on about the 10w single-ended Blackstar Artisan/Studio 10s cause I really like mine.

dirty, i imagine, i can see myself falling down a pedal hole but we’ll get to that later..
thanks for the rec, look lovely and UK based appeals

They also have an effects loop which is a really nice feature on a smallish combo.
The EL34 is the crunchier variant, 6L6 is the Fender style one (clean until it isn’t) and the one I have is the KT88 which is higher headroom for clean stuff but also has a really high gain overdrive mode (foot-switchable like they all are).

Fun times ahead man!
For me I would absolutely choose one of the new Epiphone ES-335s with the new headstock for that type of money...
As far as amps go I'd strongly consider a Boss Katana Artist if you can find a used one for a good price or else a Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb if you're feeling a tiny bit spendier... all the valve tone but the solid state practicality.

Would you consider Boss Waza Air if it's only going to be for office duties? I've heard lots of people in similar circumstances who haven't plugged into their amp all of lockdown thanks to the excellence of Waza Air...
Otherwise how about a Positive Grid Spark?
My one other suggestion for something totally different would be to get a Ceriatone American Classics Champ Ultra Lunchbox with a matching 1x12 cabinet... very lush!

FWIW I've really enjoyed using a Yamaha THR10 for quietish office/bedroom use. It's got a nice range of tones from absolutely clean to super-saturated Bettencourt-style distortion that are available at any volume. They've pulled off the nice trick of making it sound like a proper big amp that's been recorded at high volume and then played back quietly, rather than it sounding like a small amp. Enough features not to need a pedalboard every time, but not so many features that you feel that you're having to dial in 3 dozen settings every time you just want a slightly different sound.

I’ve gone for this little piece of porn. Super excited. Now trying to work out what amp I’m going to need.

Failed on my quest for a jazzmaster, ended up with a new full Mahogony acoustic...... Next time...
