Looks fun. Might not be enough daylight for that though.

  • Our first overseas family holiday was to Majorca. I'd definitely recommend a trip to the old town in Palma. The Alfabia Gardens just by the southern entrance to the Soller tunnel are worth a visit, as is the monastery at Lluc.

  • Looks fun. Might not be enough daylight for that though.

I'd have thought that was right up your street.

  • I'd have thought that was right up your street.

I'm not going to be taking lights and I'm not fast enough to knock it off in under 10 hours.

  • Culture is Chopin and Miro and the Catalan language.

  • What is cerveza in catalan?

  • Points at beer, does drinking mime. #sorted

  • Anyway, you speak German like everybody else over there.

  • Ja

  • One small draught beer is referred to as: una caña. If u want a pint or a large beer then, una pinta. Nobody says cerveza. If u want a bottle order by beer name!

  • Haben Sie eine Luftpumpe für Presta in Ihrer Almhütte bitte?

  • Jealous. If I was not for Kölner Karneval Majorca would look good.

  • I am also thinking of going out end of March or end of April.

Just met up with a pro-cycling buddy who is about to head out there for 3 months. Apparently, at the right hotel, they are full of cyclists out there for winter training. He is going out with a small team and is planning to meet other cyclists in the hotel and out on the road to ride with over the course of the 3 months.

Sounds pretty ideal if you are going solo!

Let me know if you would like any Garmin routes or more suggestions for places to go.

Apparently there is also a bar/restaurant run by an ex-pro that is full of cyclists every evening having a beer and some (so I've heard) good food.

For any foodies, Ottolenghi did an episode in Majorca late last year. Possibly worth checking out his site/twitter/youtube to get some tips.

  • Complete lack of cohesion or structure in that post.

    Apologies.

  • Thanks for the tips. I'll be visiting this thread while I'm over there for ideas.

  • http://www.bikeboxalan.co.uk/ has arrived. Guess I should get packing..

  • There's like hills and shit over here. Still fucking raining though... Europe >>> In summer kit though so can't complain too much. Good times.

  • There's "mountains" as well you ocker. Apparently it's gonna stay dry from tomorrow until Sunday and even go up to 20 degrees, not bad for early February.

  • Under 1000m is a hill*

    *maybe making this up

  • Anyway, back now and can confirm it's fucking awesome. Didn't hurt that you fuckers basically sunk and got blown away while I worked on my fresh tan lines in the lovely countryside.

is that the one at the top of col de soller??

  • No. It's Tolo's Bar in Puerto Pollenca.

  • ^yes.

  • Spanks. Shit, I just had a thought - my Garmin might only have UK maps.

Maybe time to investigate those open source maps?

If you have the standard Navigator maps then I think they cover Majorca
