  • As @Manc_Ronnie said, unless you've booked your bus, it may be worth checking out a pre-booked taxi. There wasnt much difference in price when I last did it. I think alot of the shared shuttles have baggage limits i.e 1 x suitcase and 1 x hand luggage per person.

  • Tuens out that buses etc don't run in the off season so taxi was our only option. Had a great time there, even if the weather wasn't fantastic - will write a bit more later.

  • Heading out in May. Mostly to lord it up by a pool and get some scenery. May rent a bike to try a climb or two while im there tho.. Excited!

  • There is only the prebooked Resorthopper from the airport to Pollenca. They do take bikes but they do charge for them. It's a gamble as sometimes they will use a minibus. I watched for a while as they tried to fit a single bike in a bus and in the end they gave up and left the cyclist with his bike to wait for a bigger bus, probably an hour or so. I 've given up taking my own bike and I hire these days. It's a lot less hassle. Airline charges for bikes are too much and can equal or be more than hiring.

  • Tuesday.
Sa Calobra goal set- under 35 mins.
    Other aims:
    2 x centuries.
    Tan.
Anyone out there next week or know anyone- could do with some group riding, may end up meeting the Tolo's again...
Bike hired through RentMarch- so hopeful it all works out. Transfer with ResortHoppa, Airbnb booked in a hostel for 9£ a night, and flights were 50£ from East Midlands.
Only out till Friday the 1st of May so packed schedule.

  • I'll be arriving evening of Tuesday 28th and heading back Morning of Monday 4th. still trying to sort a bike box/bag out.

    looking forward to it :)

  • Can anyone recommend a bike hire near Palma area? Out there next week and would love to get a days riding in...

  • No idea about Palma, sorry.
    @markairsy1
I'll be at a loss much of the time, if you feel like a ride partner, I'd be keen.

  • Im there the week after looking for the same. I found a German owned one in Palma that looked good.. Just looking to do a 60 mile loop and check out the southwest corner of the island, then head over to the 'staircase' and try that.

  • I have one of these

that you are welcome to borrow if you are stuck. I'm in Barnet. I'd need it back the week after you get back.

  • Depending on what type of riding u are talking u can get various types of bikes- Boris bike esq to basic road bikes, from Palma bike hire, of which there are a few around the city. If u are looking for something more high end then heading to Can Pastilla close to Arenal (close to the airport -nd about 10 minutes in a cab from Palma) area u will find a number of outfits hiring bikes. Arenal is the German equivalent of Magaluf so u can also get shit faced. Lots of max huerzeler hire sites to choose from.

  • I will also be doing most of my riding solo so would also benefit from a bit of company. I will be based in Palma staying with friends, where are u located?

  • Yeah the place I used last year was in Can Pastilla but it seems they don't do 1 day hire. Ha, yep I've actually had a night out in Arenal, it was funny. Will keep looking....

  • there are a number of different places in that area, I am sure one of them would do a days hire but perhaps need some notice.

Other wise you could try a cycle store in Santa Catalina (about 15mins on the train from Palma) but i cannot remember the name i am afraid.

its actually not a bad place to start and finish from so you could catch the train out in the morning, pick up the bike and head out. it would save you navigating your way into the city.

thats all i got i'm afraid!

  • Over in Puerto pollenca. It was proper perfect riding weather today!
Bit of a shame so far away for a meet up... Palma looks incredible for riding, but I love the eastern tramantunas...
Sa Calobra today. It fucking hurt after a plane flight.
Will need strava confirmation but rough time suggested it took 35 mins.

  • I did almost exactly 100 miles by riding from Port de Pollensa to Sa Pobla and getting the first train to Palma, then pick up the MA-10 via Calvia and Andratx. Follow the MA-10 through Estellencs and Banyalbufar - fantastic road. You could have a truly epic ride following the whole thing all the way through the mountains back to PdP but that would be a lot more than 100 miles for the day. I headed inland for a flat route via Santa Maria del Cami, Binissalem, Campanet.

  • Crap weather today though, eh? ;)
I managed c. 80 on a vague attempt at a fasted ride. Far too little fuel, and compensated tonight.

  • weather was just perfect... if not a little too warm by the end. rest day coincided with a colder day and a hangover as well so all went perfectly!

back there Monday for work... no bike tho :(

  • did you manage to entertain yourself for the few hours in Palma prior to heading out?

  • Yeah- there was a beer festival, I did some SUP, some kitesurfing and then attempted to walk to the airport- distance wise wasn't bad, but on arrival at the airport I struggled to actually get to the terminal.

  • I got smashed at that beer festival last week! The cycle hire guy kindly gave me a lift back to galilea after I missed my bus!

  • How was it taking your bike on the train? You reckon they'd be cool with three people turning up?
