  • Just tret myself to a R&J Churchill Wide short fella (robusto?) from Davidoff for NYE. Looking forward to that one. While I was in there an Irish guy walked away with 50 Cohibas and a lighter wallet to the tune of 900 sheets. Fuck.

    ^^That collection is amazing Forms.

  • I have a Cohiba Siglo on the table in front of me, may smoke it in the day though as it will be warmer!

  • Cohiba Siglo what?? Siglos range from I to VI (1 to 6), so named for each century since Columbus 'discovered' America... Damn I'm a geek!

  • i might smoke a partagas today and a cohiba tonight.

  • I got a couple VI's I'm saving. Probably have a Monte Edmundo.

  • I wish there'd been things like these around when I was a cigar smoker, they look like crackers. Need a decent flame to get a ring gauge like that fired evenly

Do you miss out on some of the flavour development with shorter cigars?

I can't imagine a situation when I'd have several hours in a smoke friendly environment to smoke a big fella.

  • I have to admit that the cigar I have enjoyed the most was a Cohiba Robusta that I was given by Erin.

It chased around in my bag for ages until I remembered it, got it out and smoked it.

It was a bit dry, and I probably did not light it properly, but I got to smoke it indoors with a friend in relaxed circumstances, all the rest I have had to smoke outdoors- usually freezing!

  • Does anyone want to buy 10 Saint Luis Rey - Serie As for £50, plus about £6 postage (next day delivery) if necessary..?

Where abouts are you based? If you're in London, you should try and come along to a smoking/drinks session. There hasn't been one for a while, but I'm sure there'll be one soon. There's always time to smoke a big cigar, as long as you don't mind being outside for an hour or so whilst at the pub...

In my limited experience, shorter/smaller cigars are generally stronger in terms of flavour, than longer cigars from the same marca and line. I'm not the right person to be dishing out facts about cigars - especially in an environment that I know to be occupied by people who have a lot more knowledge on the subject than I do... I would however agree that smaller cigars don't develop as much as longer/larger cigars - I'd venture that this is because when you smoke cigars, gases build up inside them, changing the flavours as the cigar smokes - with longer cigars, there is more opporuntiy for this to happen. Cigars are said to have 3 stages to them. As far as I'm aware, that applies to all cigars of all sizes - the development in larger cigars is maybe just more obvious...

  • Yeah Byoi !!

    Epic - need one!

    PM'd

  • not been paying much attention, have there been any group buys?

  • How long can a box of cigars be stored outside of a humidor?

  • For a while, though it's a better idea to store them in a tuperware container than in their original box. It's pretty humid at the moment, so in my opinion the cold is more of a problem, along with constant temperature fluctuation. I've kept some cigars in a tuperware box, in my sock draw for months, and they were fine. They needed a humidor to bring them back to their best, but they survived.

  • I got my first humidor set up at last after some frustrating days calibrating the hygro and waiting for the humidity to drop back to an acceptable level. It's still a bit high but I think filling it up will will draw it down to the low 70's.

  • Your best off removing cigars from their tubes when storing them in a humidor.
    Just a little FYI.
Nice selection you got there though

  • Debatable about removing cigars from tubes. Some do, some don't. Like almost everything else with cigars it comes down to personal preference.

Min Ron Nee swears they'll age differently if removed from a tube. I leave 'em tubed just cause I'm lazy.

  • Tubeless just to make more room in the hunidor.

  • Forms - I promise I will meet up to get my stogies off you. I'm running low.
I had another of the Punch Royal Selection the other day, whilst strolling through Venice on the way to see a concert of Vivaldi's Quattro Stagioni, like you do. God what a lovely smoke.

The Punch and my Sanchos are just coming back to proper humidity. I have one Punch left, which is a bit dry in my opinion, so it can stay in the humidor another month before I smoke it.

  • ...I had another of the Punch Royal Selection the other day, whilst strolling through Venice on the way to see a concert of Vivaldi's Quattro Stagioni,......

    Turning so green with envy.

  • Wow BQ, sounds pretty fantastic. I too an very jealous. No rush on picking up your cigars (at least from my perspective). They are chilling in my humidor, and aren't taking up any needed space. I know i continually say it, and never follow through, but it would be good to arrange as mass meet, drink and smoke session. Otherwise, let me know when you're ready and we can arrange the handover. You still owe me a tenner btw.

  • Had a sancho panzer from the group buy this morning on my walk into work.
I had forgotten how good it was. Made the 40min journey very nice.

  • Hopefully from March on we could start doing herfs. Early on we just need relatively decent weather and a patio with heaters.

Really looking forward to some good social herfs this year so we should start planning early.

  • Defo for me, as much warning as possible is awesome
