  • i have a great idea!

  • i like gabes' idea!

if you get cones like that, you can get ones filled with sand and they're much more sturdy

  • Yep. cones ftw

  • new cones for downham are needed for sure, they're about as heavy as object's farts.

  • i have new cones for downham

  • ????

  • FYI, despite the postive reviews by many north american players on the bikepolo.ca thread from last September, nets definitely haven't taken off in north america. we use big heavy iron hockey nets in toronto (you may have seen in that video with TapOut Nick and i), but mostly because we're too lazy to move them.

i still think nets are a good idea, especially on larger courts, where they don't take away from the space behind the goals (in toronto we have about 15 feet behind the net!)

finally i gotta say that what bothers me about this debate is how many people have strong ideas against nets without ever having tried them for extended periods.

  • How about combining the heavy base neoprean top with the cone idea and coming up with the cylinder:

No footprint, nothing to hurt one's self on and a vertical post of the right height for polo (maybe with a hole drilled in the base to lock them up when not in use?)

    Wouldn't be hard to make...

have you got access to lead, the furnaces to heat it and the moulds to shape it?!

  • Have you ever worked lead? You can melt it in a pan over a hob, mould could be a cake tin.

Ex-Mallet in the middle and padding around it...

Haven't found anywhere to get it from, but when I was a kid we used to make soldiers out of it! (the whole poisonous thing might be a problem?)

    (church roofs?)

  • Er anyway, this is beside the point, apparently you can get rings of lead from scuba shops, so why not make the posts what ever size they sell them in? No melting needed.

  • please no lead, lead is disgusting, if need something heavy, that I dont think so, we could use cement and sand, easy and quick to do, then put it in a mould

  • why is lead disgusting ? non-eco?

  • sand would be a good idea nevertheless, and probably cheaper

  • I think sand spilled out of one of the yellow cones at Downham, constantly covering the court in a fine layer of grit. Not nice.

I'd like the Mitchison type posts, cut to a standard height.

Maybe with a net strung securely between them? ;)

  • Weight a minute, you want a round lead disc with a hole in the middle to fit a pole you say?
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you:

    Ta Da!

  • The narrow stick goals that Tom posted up earlier would be really hard to judge if some shots were in or out I think.

  • Ta Da!

Good thinking Dan (or what a spacker of me for not thinking it) I've got 4 of these at home...

  • if the posts are thinner than the ball it would be very hard to judge.

  • Something i've been working on:

Based on specs from K'ruhe, thanks Recep.

Have punctured hole in orange cap for bungee cord, add replacement hockey net from Canadian Tire $15 (ziptied down). Total price just under $60 . Maybe some sand inside?

  • All the cone basis reflect ball like shit.
Karlsruhe netted goal was quite perfect. Just need an issue to make the ball stay in goal after a shot, like in rink hockey.

With netted goals, no more safe from behind, no more argument about heigt of shoot etc...

In Geneva we play with our home made goal, you can see it here:

I know that they have cone base... "for style" tell the builder. And they aren't netted... to expensive for now. But, play with this have many advantage:
You can see when the goals is in or not, even with low light. You can check if a defensor play over the top bar or not. No more fucking weird shot by passing all the bike from side to side of the goal. Some nice deflection on the top bar to goal, like in soccer.
The top bar heigt is just under a handlebar from a bike not too big, trackstand goaling aren't realy different from cone trackstand.

  • Looks good Max, is it made from plumbing supplies? Looks like it could be easily dismantled if those joints just pop together which could be very handy. Does the curve at the bottom of the upright affect the way the ball bounces off it too much? I guess you don't know yet.

  • Looking again it looks like the ball strikes above the curve so probably not. Sweet.
