  • wow this has taken me back!! I forgot I had this bike!! i wish i could find pictures of it - I had it when I was about 6....
sparkle blue raleigh with a little computer attached to the handlebars with a plethora of sound effects, including sirens, whistles, and a selection of amazingly bad synth sounds and melodies....not forgetting the rainbow coloured streamers coming out of the handlebars too. Flash.

i can safely say i had the coolest bike on the block!

  • Dawes Junior Kingpin (cannot find a picture of the Junior): my first bike in 1970, gold frame, single speed, did not fold despite the name. Bomb proof quality bike, rode it like a BMX and MTB before either were invented, took anything thrown at it including 'backies' for my mates. Grew out of it eventually.

2nd hand Hercules Hustler, just like the above: boys 3-speed 'racer' with drops, superb unappreciated Chopper killer, wanted a 10-speed. Rammed from behind by car 1976, lived on with new back wheel, rode into back of parked van circa 1977, lived on with new forks then sold on to be unappreciated by another youngster.

Viscount Aerospace 10-speed racer, rode it round the Peak District, killed it with neglect.

Dawes Windsor, budget hi tensile frame version of galaxy, loved it, stolen from shed in Essex mid 1980s.

  • 1) Unknown red bicycle - Lost a fight with a wall

    2) Black Lion BMX - I don't even remember what happened to that

    3) Unknown electric blue MTB- Stolen when a neighbour left a door open. Found 100 yrds down the street 3 months later cable locked to a tree. Still had my old d-lock dangling from the frame where i'd left it. Police helped me lift it over the tree. Rode it for a while then stolen when a neighbour left a door open.

I had one of those Raleigh Hustlers too - racing round Monks Park in Stonebridge every summer, magic.

  • Well after yesterdays Frog Chorus induced flashback here we go again....love these threads, can the merge meisters do their thing with the thread Oliver posted as these are class.

First bike I bought was a burgandy raleigh frame with gold mudguards,(hipster) bought at local auction with savings from my Post Office savings account, Jesus that makes me feel old.

Then Gran bought me a blue chrome Raleigh Bomber, on reflection this started my passion for blue bikes, thought I was the mutts nuts with this despite it weighing as much as a small moon. I'm so amazed I used cycle round the hills of Wales on this with only 3 Sturmley Archer gears.

Hand me down original Raleigh Burner I got from my older brother who got the newer gold one with black mags, I had Burner envy.

Then a gap as like all boys in the sticks as soon as 17 birthday arrived it was all about cars.

Then came to London for Uni and it was all about bikes again.

Red white and blue GT hardtail, can't remember model,Arrowline?? or something, sold to mate.

Second hand Cannondale F1000 with 48tooth big ring that was a road rocket, nicked.

    Cannondale Jekyll 800, cracked frame.

Giant Reign 2-nicked, was proper distraught about that as it was'nt insured.

And that brings it up to the current fleet of warranty replacement Jekyll, Flyer, Mercian and Denti.

Alas no photos as they all at my folks in Wales but this has inspired me to scan them onto computer when I'm next back to get a proper bike family tree, Will post them at later date.

Thanks forum that's brightened my day.

  • my 3 old little brother rides a fixed gear better than my dad but the 3 year old has stabilisers
