  • I came across some pictures of my bikes from when I was a kid and thought they'd be worth a post. I do seem to remember a thread like this but a serious bout of UTFS didn't turn anything up.
So for the piccies...my much loved Cannondale M400 (I think at the point photographed it was only the frame that was original) and my lovely SE PK ripper which I bought from Nige Page (of downhill riding fame).
And me being a fat child on my ripper at the local BMX track.

Post your own embarrassing bikey childhood photos here!

  • good work jammy i recall its an old post by eyebrows. can't remember the name. wish I had pics of my bikes as a kid. they were shockers.

  • my first was just like this one, but in lime green

  • I rode a Raleigh Tomahawk, my big brother rode on a Raleigh Chopper. Old school funk. :D

  • I remember having a Raleigh Street Wolf, 16" black mag wheels and a "computer" on the handlebars that made siren noises!

  • Found the original thread!

I have some pics at home of me aged 6 on my Raleigh Budgie wearing a knitted hoody - must scan them in - I look fucking cool*.

    *not

  • First was a Raleigh with twin disk wheels (cant remember its name) then a Raleigh wildcat with 3 electronic tones! Giant Escape , Saracen rufftrax, GT RTS, GT LTS, Coyote DH3, then a Kona stinky.

    All much loved!

  • And another thread on the same theme:

  • Jammy you look so unhappy! Awhh diddums.

When're you next in M'cr, I've finished all my exams so have a month of doing sweet fuck all. Let's go for some ironic ridezzzzz.

  • @Booga - I remember that bike! It was awesome.

This is a depressing game. Bikes we have loved and lost..

First bike I remember having was a fluroescent green Coventry Eagle, think it may have been an hand-me-down.

Then there was the speckled green Raleigh MTB, around 1990. Followed by a Muddy Fox of some description, a Trek, a no-name own brand MTB of some kind and a Scott - which takes me up to 2001.

Replaced my Scott with a Specialised Hard Rock, and didn't replace it after it was stolen, until the Holdsworth recently.

  • No photos at the moment but I did have a Coventry Eagle then a Ken Ryall and a Raleigh track bike.

  • This is a depressing game. Bikes we have loved and lost..

First bike I remember having was a fluroescent green Coventry Eagle,

I think mine was a mauve'ish colour metallic I believe

  • The internet seems to have no place for bikes I have owned. No Sunbeam Champ (apart from my pic I posted in the older thread), no Elswick Hopper Thunderflash Sport. boo.

  • Ok, I'll play this game.

    1. Pink step through/folding shopper that used to belong to my Grandmother, learned to ride on this.
    2. Raleigh Grifter painted blue with "BMX" stickers applied by my Grandad.
    3. Silver Raleigh road bike painted by myself with Hammerite as it was rust coloured when purchased- for a fiver from a jumble sale
    4. Raleigh Montage- Reynolds 501 main triangle tubing keeping the weight down to around 36 lbs.
    5. Giant Cadex fully rigid MTB- still one of my all time favourite bikes
    6. Trek 8000 in the blue/purple paint, PDM 737's, purple X-Lite bar ends, bars etc, Flite Ti
    7. Klein Attitude (wish I still had this)
    8. Cannondale Rush 600 (still got this)
    9. Cannondale SystemSix Team Si Ultegra (still got this)
    10. Geofrey Butler, late of Cajeta and then ASM
    11. Fuji Track Pro- current fixed/most used bike
    12. Dyno Moto7 beach cruiser- gone to Tilover
  • Jammy you look so unhappy! Awhh diddums.

Sounds like a plan mate - went for a great spin in the sunshine t'other week with Liam and Rich

  • My first racing bike - a Raleigh Medale (5 speed not the expensive 10 speed as pictured here). The irony was that my LBS at the time 'Bill's', had an upstairs room full of Bianchi's. Being 1982 and me being 12 could you convince me that a Bianchi was an adequate substitute for a Raleigh - like f**k you could... the folly of youth!

  • Back in the day I was rolling around on one of these. . .

  • Me with my state of the art bike computer:

Me in my Dursley RC top:

I’ve got one of me on a Ribble I built myself somewhere too(Sold that for beer money when I was 18)

  • 1) red raleigh step through (resprayed by my dad - it was blue when it was my brothers)
    2) 18 gear free spirt - black and flouro orange, stolen by a fat ginger kid on my paper round.
    3) Blue 18 gear raleigh stratos - with grey tires, 22" frame and gripshift - stolen on my paper round
    4) replacement Raleigh stratos bought by the insurance company, same grey tires.
    5) Raleigh Ultra burner bought for £15, resprayed flouro green, thrown away by my dad when i sprayed the whole garage flouro green.
    6) Tange Prestige Merlin frame, £90, with some Raleigh parts and singlespeeded bought in 1998 (half my money, half my dads) lasted till last winter when it was finally killed by rust.

Got some more now, still never spent more than £90 on anything bike related, Gitane fixed and Azonic singlespeed included.

  • At least you found a use for the gate post but you should be doing a track stand.

  • ok! wait... photo album, scanner. resize. upload. no.

  • Woah had a very similar setup to the cannondale in the first pic in 98, except I had a killer-V and rockshox forks. Tyre's, chainguard and single ring set up are the same.

  • I recall having a BMX for ages whilst everyone else tooled round
on mtbs. I finally persuaded my parents to get me a 'cool' mtb for Xmas on to find my mates had now decided BMXs were the in thing. Bastards.

  • Mine went something like:

    1. Raleigh Bullet (tiny, red and silver)
    2. Raleigh Boxer (blue, slightly less tiny)
    3. Bianchi MTB (real cheap piece of shit)
    4. Peugeot Tim Gould replica (from Halfords, so not a genuine replica)
    5. 1994 Kona Fire Mountain
    6. 1995 Kona Lava Dome
    7. 1996 Kona Kilauea
    8. 2005 Commencal Absolut
    9. 2006 Commencal Absolut
    10. Kiyo Miyazawa
    11. Lemond Filmore

List seems short - I'm sure I must be missing something.

  • Ha...just noticed my comment in the thread Delphina started. :)
