  • Because Robert's approach so far will probably not lead to a ride coming together. Hence my advice to him on being more proactive. In no way did I intend to disparage his ride.

  • well that may be true but im sure my brother is just trying to get a few peoples attention before making any critical plans

  • If you book them, they will come

  • well lets hope to god they come!!

  • Cool route, not sure how friendly it is though.

108 KM starting and finishing in the sticks, most in dense urban areas which would require a lot of concentration.
If you had a group of over 20 it may involve a bit of waiting and several pre-arranged stopping points.
Would this be run in the day or night time?

Could be an achievement but you are looking at a ride for most people of 150KM plus to get there and back to their homes which may frighten off a lot of casual riders.

  • My folks are from Dagenham. The roads there are teh scariest I've ever ridden, and I've lived in Brixton, Elephant&Castle, Dalston, and Shoreditch. Motorists treat cyclists like a kind of inconvenient fog out there. Really would not recommend going through East Ham/Barking with a grands worth of bike either.

Not being down on the idea, it's a cute idea, but be wary - not everywhere is cycle friendly.

  • rob.ert_parker, you should organise a Circle-line ride.
I think that would be safer, easier and more potentially successful.

A Circle-line ride has the potential to be a real-FGSS fixture if you pick a nice route.
It takes in all of London, could be epic.

    If you don't I will.

  • Think the District line would either start or end a long way from home for most.

Circle Line Night Ride sounds like a good one Mack.

  • I think an evening/night Circle Line ride would be more realistic. Doing a clockwise and anti clockwise lap. I think it's only about 15 miles per lap and could have a mass sprint finish by Westminster followed by a few beers at the end?

  • Circle line ride sounds good, I cast my vote that way.

  • Circle Line ride would be great. Split the pack into 2, one group starting at Notting Hill Gate, one at Liverpool Street, both head off clockwise pursuit stylee and finish when one group catches the other. Losers buy the beer.

  • Gauntlet thrown.. 24.6075KM

  • Was thinkin something similar matty. Could even do a night time trial, limit numbers set of at one minute intervals...could be good for a bit of sport (i guess could also potentially be carnage/logistical nightmare!!)

Hah! London Pursuit ride, like it.

Might encourage a slightly reckless riding style though- you'd need to set the rule that your group must finish with all starters to qualify/win, else people will arrow off the front of the pack.

  • Route above assumes Westminster Start - Clockwise.

  • she's a route, i'm excited. any chance of this being in early 2010 so I'm out of plaster...no...didn't think so :(

Person would need a photo of every station on their phone though.

  • Or a volunteer to stamp your card at each station, easier to check a card than go through someone's phone photo album?

  • i was trying to think of a way of marshalling it, u found one, genius. Possibly no need for route, alleycat style, start, photograph all circle line stations as quick as possible, get to finish.

Distance wise, it look like 2 laps would be best. otherwise it's over before it's begun... ish

    drink
    lap clockwise
    drink
    lap anti clock?

    EDIT. Alleycat stylee is interesting.

  • Yeah, pursuit race wouldn't actually be a great idea unless we want to get a full house of forumengers in all hospitals on the route.

Also, that route from Kings Cross to Paddington along Euston Road is miserable as hell. Would be ok to do post-midnight in a big pack, but not fun either in the day, or alone (esp in TT mode).

  • I think this is two separate things now.

    1. Easy social-ride and piss-up
    2. Point-to-point race

    I would participate in either.

    Assuming a Saturday night.
It isn't that bad at night but you could pop into the park for a bit.
x-number of cyclists just hold a lane anyway so would be fine.

  • Unless someone wants to take reponsibility for the organisation*, social ride would be the best option.

*This does not constitute an offer

  • I will do the social one.
