My dog can count to the amount of times I’ve heard or read escocía used outside of grammar studies, unlike Escocia which is the name of a well known nation. Weird that it corrects to the far less likely of the two.

Huh, it’s stopped happening, only took 2 years. Escocia Escocia Escocia :)

Although it's already fixed itself, if it's really a rare word and you'll know exactly when you want to use it, just delete it from your keyboard dictionary, long press on the auto suggest word on Android, dunno if it's the same on iPhone.

Most, if not all, Romance languages employ definite articles, as does German.

But Latin, the language of Vatican City State, doesn't. I favour cleaving as closely as is practical to the native names of places, a practice which seems to be adopted only sporadically by popular convention based, it seems, on a perverted notion of political correctness. It's odd that we are directed to say Mumbai and Beijing now, but there is no clamour for a general adoption by English speakers of Köln or Torino

Also, the vaticani (no official demonym for Vatican citizens afaik) don’t seem to fret over adding an article when they write official correspondence in the many languages they speak fluently amongst themselves.

Perhaps calling people’s homes by the name they choose is appropriate?
