Liberty have a deal right now... if you were buying Aesop you can pick up a serum and face cream together for £70 which is a bargain.

People that have lots of disposable income so, to them, it's not that much at all in the grand scheme of things.
One of my neighbours (who's house hasn't been cut up into n flats like the one I live in) was discussing buying his eldest son a brand new car for passing his test. His justification was that it wasn't a huge amount of money as it was about half his monthly mortgage repayment. It's just his mortgage repayment is North of £20k/month.

I mean, I get that. This is straight to the golf chat thread but we probably have around £4.5k of disposable income a month (after mortgage, bills, food, pensions etc).
I would never consider spending a couple of hundred skin cream. Maybe my priorities are wrong??

20+ years ago I remember the then CEO telling us a story about how he got pulled in to help close a deal. The deal was going to be $1m+ but that wasn't the important bit. The important bit was he was talking to a room full of developers who were earning £40k or so (not bad at the time), and his next pronouncement showed just how much his probably oft-used anecdote was completely inappropriate for his audience.
The story carried on about the back and forth of the deal and how they were quibbling over some amount and not making any progress. Eventually he asked just how much they were arguing about. $1500 was the answer, to which he uttered the immortal line:-
"$1500? But that's just a pair of shoes!"
There was just stunned silence in the room. It's still referred to some 20 years later whenever there is a figure around £1000. "How many pairs of shoes are we talking? 5? 10?"

To every order of magnitude more you earn, the value of things are an order of magnitude less.
A £70 day cream on £10k a year is expensive, on £100k a year it feels like a £7 day cream and on £1M a year it's free and why are we even having this conversation.

Fuck me, that's more than three times as much disposable income as my actual income. I honestly wouldn't know what to do with that amount of money if I had it one month, let alone all of them.

My sister announced to a room full of family (mostly teachers) that brexit had cost her £500,000 when we looked quizzical she explained that her banking shares had fallen in value by 50%. Not much sympathy flowed
If people say to me £500...that’s not a lot of money I answer then give me £500 none have so far.

"$1500? But that's just a pair of shoes!"
My ex-wife would have agreed, and was on a salary of <£40k.

No. I want to tell a story.
When I was at art school in the 90s I lived in a £30 pw room in a shared house. We were all sat around one night complaining about not having any money (for fags and food and booze etc). Our housemate looked really sad and said "I know right? I may have to sell some shares".
Same muted response as to @Dibble 's sister I imagine.
I think it's fair to say that it's a sliding scale and we're all guilty of it - but those who have rarely understand those who do not.
