I don’t know about the UK, but the US police are at least 4x* as likely to be domestic abusers as the population at large.
I don’t see the above joke punching-down to domestic abuse victims, but as a joke pointing out that there is a domestic abuse problem among police.

*this is reported, the #s may be higher due to fear of reporting domestic abuse to a spouse’s coworkers and/or friends. There is also the chance that reported domestic abuse among police gets officially logged much less then among the general population.
