doesn't a bullet use a small amount of gunpowder, which ignites / combusts, and therefore needs oxygen
Firearm propellants, whether gunpowder or modern (post 1886) nitro type, contain their own oxidiser. The useful combustion all happens inside the gas-tight chamber, which is a brass or steel cartridge case in modern (post about 1860) small arms.

There might be an issue with cooling if you conduct sustained fire in a near vacuum, but even on a light barrelled AR you're several magazines in before that arises, and if 90 rounds of 5.56 hasn't solved your initial problem, melting the gas tube is the least of your worries 🙂

Isn’t space near absolute zero to begin with?

Isn’t space near absolute zero to begin with?
Yes, but that doesn't help. Sure, the gas surrounding your gun, which is what it relies on for barrel cooling, is cold, but there's almost none of it. Try cooling your g&t with a microscopic ice cube 🙂

More importantly, how are guns going to help against ghosts?

The TP-82 (Russian: ТП-82) was a triple-barrelled Soviet pistol that
was carried by cosmonauts on space missions ... from 1986 to 2007....a regular semi-automatic pistol would be used on future missions.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TP-82_Cosmonaut_survival_pistol

how are guns going to help against ghosts?
- Ghosts haunt people because they yearn for company
- If there's a gun in the scene, it has to go off
- A dead astronaut means another ghost to keep the first one company, so the haunting ends.

tidy
Modern ammunition contains its own oxidiser.
Or so the internet tells me.
