  • Sorry, but that bin lid won't open without your having to pull it away from the wall. It's this kind of fake news that gives garbage a bad name.

  • I for one am enjoying the buzzwords / etymology / memes mash-up thread. Bit like some of the epic merges bitd when hippy first got the power.

  • the shape of the bits of the graph of load (y axis) against speed (x) that you have investigated is usually open-envelope shaped. The 'point' of the 'flap' being at the origin (no speed, no load)

I don't think this is correct. It's an envelope in the sense of boundary or perimeter of successful test points, thus defining known safe flight parameters.

  • Envelopes in aerodynamics from one of my old text books, still on the bookcase next to me. I’m very embarrassed that I’ve forgotten it.

  • Personally I think this is an improvement for this thread...

  • When you see it, you'll shit bricks.

  • Are we the bad guys?

  • You are.

  • You're not, I'm sorry.

  • Wrong Nazis.

  • I just get round it now by saying 'Yeah, I know but I just love Johnny Marr.'

  • I hung out with Andy Rourke one night, he showed me some phone pictures of some women his son had been banging when iPhones were new, was a bit weird, but not morrisey weird.

  • Maybe too niche

    Ha ha, no

  • he showed me some phone pictures of some women his son had been banging when iPhones were new

In the new spirit of this thread, I'd like to point out in a pedantic fashion the fact that this sentence contains semantic ambiguity caused by noun phrase confusion.

The phrase "he showed me some phone pictures of some women his son had been banging when iPhones were new" could either mean that his son was banging the women when iPhones were new, or that Andy Rourke was showing you the pictures when iPhones were new, rather like the classic headline "Judge rules on nude beach".

As Andy Rourke is quite old it's therefore hard to know when this happened.

  • I read it as the banging took place in 2007 ish

  • All happened at around the same time. The banging, new fangled phone based muckies and then showing them to random me's in bars.

  • Couldn't tell you what year though, but about 2007 will do.
