Not a real meme, but people still use this type of map. It's even used by Google maps. The world doesn't look like that... Just look at the size of Greenland! It's huuuuuuge!

It's impossible to depict a sphere as a 2d image without distortion (or fucking it up in some other creative way). Neither of those are correct, they're just wrong in different ways. They're also wrong in similar ways, such as the poles being as 'wide' as the equator.

Earth is a cylinder.

Folk travel around it all the time. But no one travels over the top or undertake bottom. They always stop at the pole.

Nobody really cares about countries north of Scotland. I'm surprised they're even on the map.

Though the second image is still closer.

The recognised image of the world is heavily skewed by socio-economic factors.
