that's not entirely true, if you have to drop bombs for your job (that you chose to do) then putting a pic of a cat on them may be a way for the soldier concerned to alleviate some of the torment of being paid to potentially kill people. Just because someone makes a decision to be in the armed forces does not necessarily make them a demented murderer.
