It's normal thing when you should medium format or tethered. If you drag around the lights and batteries, you can as well have a preview in higher resolution.

He may care about colour.
No Macbook has an IPS screen, yet the iMac does.
If he cares greatly about colour in his previews, and he's also performed calibration of the screen, then lugging about his iMac is the only answer. In which case he's just proved himself to be an OCD photographer of note... as who else goes so far to get perfection in colour reproduction at time of shooting?

Colour correction in a coffee shop on a glossy screened iMac? I smell a troll!

Not the one in the coffee shop. He's obv' an idiot.
But the "I know a photographer who takes an iMac to shoots"... plausibly because of colour correction.

an external IPS screen + laptop = more sensible solution to that problem though DK

2 things to carry (plus cabling) vs 1.
I dunno. I can kinda see the logic in lugging an iMac to a photoshoot.

And then many people preview the shoot on iPad...

No. Colour on imac screens is not what you would call accurate

Then even my attempting to find benefit of doubt goes out of the window.
That guy is an idiot too then.

Emergency internet use (first world problem- sending files to clients), no other computer... thats the only excuse.

I came across this on my travels:
"one does not simply dolan..."
Macbooks are for schoolgirls.
