Come on then people...
Do you recognise this phone thief? - YouTube
It would be better if the bloke shooting the video didn't come across as such an ineffectual whiner.
Why did he let the bloke get away? -
• #29311
^ Agreed. He just wined at him. S'not really the best crime fighting approach.
-
• #29312
What would you have done? Arrest him?
Good luck doing that. You risk getting cuffed yourself, at the very least you'd get taken to the station with the prick.
-
• #29313
Why? Citizens arrest innit?
-
• #29314
pacifist?

If you think you can restrain someone for a period of time, without injuring them or yourself then go ahead. To attempt to do so without being sure of this would be irresponsible, and on the last train home, stupid.
And unless you're very lucky, the police wouldn't give a shit what you say till you're in the station.

I dunno.
Without sounding like a keyboard warrior, there was enough context and footage in the video to make me think he wasn't much of a threat and I could probably get the phone out of his hand without causing further trouble.
I probably would've given it a punt. -

I probably would've given it a punt.Yeah, but then again, the woman was stupid enough to leave her phone on the train, why should you physically fight for it on her behalf?
He stood up to the guy and acted responsibly, good on him
-
• #29319
He did "some pretty ineffectual yelling" by his own admission. TBH if you're going to make as much fuss as he did, you might as well go all the way..
-
• #29320
haha, yeah, well I guess it worked for Charles Bronson.

He stood up to the guy and acted responsibly, good on himYeah, fair enough.
I guess I would either leave the whole thing be, in go in a bit harder. But, at least he jumped up and did something.

If I'd been on the last train home, there is a strong possibility that I'd be at least half pissed, and wouldn't care much about injuring myself or anyone else.
I would probably have piled in.
I'm not saying that it would be the clever option, and I wouldn't do it sober, but I know what I'm like if I'm on a train after midnight.

• #29324
after midnight??? south west trains dont run trains then surely?
-
• #29325
No idea. The only train i'm ever on that late is the northern line.
