Put another way: the closer you are to the poverty line, the happier you are.

Fact for the day: according to this website: http://www.globalrichlist.com/ you're already in the top 1% if you're earning more than 26k
Huh, I put my annual salary, which is approx £4000 (yes really, I work in a sweet shop part time, and yes, I live on that) and apparently I'm in the top 14% of richest people in the world. Shocking.

At least people who live in tropics don't need to waste money on exotic holidays. Even the poorest fucks in the UK will take a 250% APR loan from Provident or an emergency one from DSS if they're on a dole to fly Easyjet to Sharm El-Sheikh or Barbados.

it's not a very clear-cut way of showing the wealth standard, for you, £4000 is cutting below the belt especially with food, rents, water, etc.
whether in other part of the world, food for example are ridiculously cheap as low as 15p for a good meal.

True. I had the same standard of live when on £500 a month in Poland in the 90s (it was a wage from TV plus a freelance stuff, I also had a mortgage) I had here on £25k.
Only the food was better and cheaper. I spent most money on records, booze and tings. -

Staple Polish and English food are broadly equivalent in terms of general shittiness.

Fact of the day #2: people living on the poverty line are happier than people living further away from it.
