Very interesting.
I keep on threatening to write a translation for customers of bike shops: for example :
"We haven't quite finished it but it will be ready by this evening" actually means, "er we haven't quite started the job...."
A "hit a small hitch" means the most junior and incompetent mechanic/teaboy has dropped the wrench of Godzilla on your carbon frame and fatally cracked it, the boss is trying to fly in a replacement.....

Yeah, that is ace. But Ive always got the impression that english was quite tricky for others. Even the spellings and grammar are contradictory/illogical (clearly an afterthought to the language).

I was discussing this kind of thing with a mate who hangs with a diverse international crowd.
He remarked that "non native English speakers don't understand you Willis because you talk your own distinct dialect of nonsense that is hard enough to follow even for native English speakers" -

its stock photo's not adverts
Epic physics fail; lightyear is a unit of distance, not time, and most of the stars visible to the naked eye are less than 1000 lightyears away
its a joke, not science

The gag would still work* with correct physics, so there was no call for it to be wrong beyond ignorance.
