Aand beyond that it's not in the spirit of the forum to edit posts to make people appear to be paedophiles, etc.
guffaw! to be in the spirit of the forum, everyone should be able to edit other people's posts. carnage.

I just think that unless you are "part of the cambridge social group" you shouldn't be allowed to post anything that's all.
We know each other over here face to face and discuss quite personal stuff, it seems impolite when someone else just randomly jumps in to make their comment.
just put restrictions for posting in our sub-forum for only those that have signed up for it.
The reason we discuss these things within the "Cambridge Sub-Forum" is because we want to discuss it within our own dedicated Cambridge cyclist group. If you know us and you have signed up for the sub-forum to be a part, thats awesome, if not, I don't see why you get to discuss in our talks.
I don't think I can make it any clearer...that is all, we love our moderator.

I'm sure you could set up a private group/forum like the LPC forum, that is members only to post (and maybe even to look at the threads but I'm not 100% sure).

i only posted in that thread because it appeared with all the other threads when i clicked on 'posts' , i would have said the same thing about that god damn video in any thread.
you all just automatically assumed that Pip and me were taking the piss out of Cambridge for some reason.

This is seeming like a form of 'Localism'....and i don't like it....we are all forum members...i am not bothered if an out of area person posts something...as long as it is not [a Abusive] [b] Racist [c]Sexist or [d]Ageist......i am anti particularism [or localism if you prefer]......i am an Internationalist!

i'll be a moderator for cambridge sub forum if crack fox has lost the title?

Anyone should be allowed to post on the sub-forums as long as they check before posting WHERE they are doing so. What was seen as annoying, and to some extent bullying, was posters from other parts of the forum making sarcastic and rude comments about stuff that had appeared elsewhere, but had only RECENTLY appeared on the CAMBRIDGE sub-forum. Yes, WE KNOW that the London lot are going to do Ride X, there's a thread about it, THAT'S HOW WE KNOW, so when a thread appears on the Cambridge forum about Ride X garnering local interest, it can be useful to have some input from the London crew, as long as it's not of the "repost" variety.
Is there any way that posters not members of the Cambridge forum could receive a pop-up notification when they are posting on a local forum? A kind of 'are you sure you mean to post here?' sort of thing?
Or leave it as it is. I'm sure we can be as rigourous as the re-post police on the main forum in pointing out Social Group Forum fails!

i think i should be the new moderator because i have too much time on my hands

I have to admit I am constantly posting on local forums without realizing it, because I live in London and I go to "posts" to see new posts.
I'm learning my lesson, but not for slightly uppity "local post for local people" sorts. -

Equally I could say the same of us folks in London.
Wild west FTW.
We don't need to separate ourselves off into tiny little groups

its just a forum all should have there input but not invade and be irrelevant to the topics in hand but we could argue on this thread for ages so there should be a new fairer moderator made (the hint is me :D)

I'm learning my lesson, but not for slightly uppity "local post for local people" sorts.lest we forget the whole reason the sub-forums exist is because london folk got fed up with non-london posts in 'their local area'. so your comment is a bit off the mark. give us a bit of leeway?
please velocio, can we go back to having to register with the specific forum before you are able to post in them. this was the story a few months back, and everything was peachy. i am unsure of why this changed (i posted a thread posing the question in our sub forum), but since it changed our threads have been littered with the sarcasm we really don't like.
as folk have already said, we are a very close knit community (i am not doubting that london lot are any different). the forum is a neutral ground for us before we meet up to do our various activities. we get enough bother in real life from university students, knife wielding pensioners and old age chavs, without having to deal with the turmoil of sarcastic throw away comments from people we don't even know!! some of us have started to lose sleep over some comments.
if i was moderator, i would re-enforce the 'register to post', maintain our high standards of posted information, and defend our right to our little piece of internet space, all the while keeping the crack fox at bay.

im with bogey!
(that can be interpretid in many ways, but i mean in a way that i agree with what he is saying)
And if so, who should it be?
Unfortunately for Crazy Fox he more than a little abused his powers by choosing to use them to arbritrarily edit the posts of other users without any real cause. In effect it's censorship, and beyond that it's not in the spirit of the forum to edit posts to make people appear to be paedophiles, etc.
It's fair to say I hadn't actually written such rules of moderation down, but it's also fair to say that if a mod hadn't quite picked up on the spirit of the site then they missed a trick.
So since he's shot himself in the foot on that... does anyone else want to pick up the banner or would you like a wild west system like the rest of the site?
I'm off on holiday for a week, but will check back to see what your thoughts are.
