  • Head to head carnage in Hackney...

    General rules are as follows:

    Fixed wheel only bikes
    Mens and womens

    From standing start
Distance of approximately 200m (may well vary as this is NOT an Olympic event)

Participants do a timed qualifying run
Leading participants then go head to head in elimination races

The course is flat and has a pretty good surface but relies on light spilling over from the Olympics construction site so lights ARE needed

Bring down cans rather than bottles as we're keen to keep the track glass free and please make an effort to put waste in rubbish bags provided..."take only photos, leave only skid marks"

Track is not too far from the Clapton roundabout, will have clearer details soon on how to get there (location from last round has been taken over by Olympics site)

Either follow the directions below, or easier still, meet up outside the Cat and Mutton at 7:00 with someone guiding through

Stuff needed, glass jars, tea lights and a couple of glow sticks. If you can help out, please PM me

Further point worth adding is these will NOT be happening on Hackney Wick like last time as this is now being encroached upon by the Olympic site so don't head that way

Directions can be found in the attached map - will look to upload images later in the week to provide further guidance.

To get to the site of your own accord, would first recommend stocking up on whatever refreshments you want from the off licence by Clapton Pond (marked on map and picture below)

Make your way to the Lea Bridge Roundabout and head down Lea Bridge Road passing the Princess of Wales pub on the right and the Lea Valley Ice Centre on the left. Soon after the Ice Centre is a bus stop on the right hand side of the road with a path heading behind it.

Head down this path which then provides you with the option of heading left (West) or right (East). You want to be heading right underneath the road and towards Walthamstow Marshes.

You should get to the following gate and overhead pipe, head through

Soon after, you will get to a clear stretch of road where we will be running our sprints. Is pretty plain sailing...

My digits are visible in the following post (in private thread so you will need to be registered on the forum)

  • Count me in!

Is this the same place as last time? Start time as before? Meet at the Inn on the Park for a ride over?

The bit of the Greenway where the last sprint was held is unusable, they've got barriers covering half the "track", and the rideable side has been dug up so is rather uneven.

I've discovered that everyone knew about it but me.

    Walks away feeling rather unwanted

  • Can it be hush hush if a flyer has been designed?

  • I think you'll find that is a spoke card rather than a flyer...

We were keen to avoid 500 LFGSSers signing up with the intention of competing as we'd be there till four in the morning (I have better things to do on a Friday night). Bookface invitations were sent out to people on friends list with a view to putting up a posting this w/end with full details. Velocio beat us to it.

Do come down whether you are planning on competing or spectating. Going on last time round, it should be a good opportunity to have a few cans and talk shit. Plan on women and mens so females need not worry about being thrown in with Jimbilly

    Sexist!

  • can't make this cos it's miles away and I'll probably be working anyway.

so my money goes on numbers 7 and 11

  • Looking at those pics reminded me how much fun it was.

    RPM I'd go with 7.
