Freewheels:
Currently running 38:22 with a WI red-ring freewheel. Got two other back wheels I've built up that are in need of freewheels.
31:18 is almost exactly the same ratio as 38:22, and a lot of freewheels only come in 16T-18T.
WI (large sizes) £80
Echo SL 108 (18T?) £60
Token (18T) £50
Halo clickster (18T) £40
Sturmey Archer (up to 23T?!) £12I'd need to buy a 31T chainring if I went for 18T, so that's an extra £20.
Any decent alternatives to WI @ 22T, or am I better off switching to 31:18?

lower tooth count = lighter drivetrain but faster wear

I think there is a casing difference between "medium" and "large" WI but I can't remember if it's just a thicker outer casing or also a larger bearing.
There seems to be a gap in the 22T market, nothing much between SA @ £12 and WI @ £80!
-
• #6561
I'll sell you a Sturmey Archer for £45?
-
• #6562
You're going to need to help me with the cost benefit analysis of the extra £33 for your SA over Hargroves Cycles' SA.

It looks like a Birmingham tax, but think of it more as a an extra layer of quality that we can add to it, just by our mere presence.

If you decide to part with your current 22t WI, I'd like first dibs.

Where would you get such a thing? The only folk I found who might do 31T was Homebrewed, and that involved ordering from the USA/indeterminate lead times. -
• #6566
I am still looking for a cheap / but decent set of 700 wheels. Oh and some forks that can be dolanerised.

I've found 30T narrow/wide rings at CRC, RaceFace, Hope and Blackspire...

Yeah, 30t is fairly easily obtained, but 31t...?

Is that your tall bike polo frame? Looks like a ridiculous low pro but rides really nice.

Needs a photo from further away, looks well slack in that photo.

forks? That forkin kevron gazimped them away...
-
• #6575
The gazumper had cold hard $$ rather than a try before buy offer. The 26" forks that were on there (Fiona's freecycle bike) are now available, but I'm guessing you dont want a smaller front wheel.
