  • Hey bro!
    bearings? Confused...
And you're saying buy this or the RS8?

The RS8 has the hollow 24mm axle with the bearings that sit outside the BB shell.
The RS7 you linked to uses the square taper BB.

Square taper BB's flex but not a noticeable amount. Shimano flex even less. But it's all tenths of MMs

If you plan on keeping the cranks for a period of several years then the RS8 will cost less. Good external BBs cost £15-25 where a decent square taper BB can cost £25+

  • Cranks that use external bb's tend to be two pieces, which means on one join to knacker, whereas square taper can round off in two places.

(I've knackered a total of about eight square taper cranks in about three years if polo, my deores were second hand and are still going after about a year... Probably not a problem for you though)

  • Also square taper Middleburns are about 100-150g heavier than the external BB versions

  • Go RS8 dude, external BB is stiffer and IMO easier to service!

  • Thanks Jimmy, Louie. Just piecing it all together.
No worries about servicing (even though will obvs go for external), I'm officially working in a bike shop and have the Park Tool master collection at my disposal. #tool porn #love a rainy day.

  • Go RS8 **X-type **dude, external BB is stiffer and IMO easier to service!
(They do square taper and ISIS versions of the RS8 too).

  • Don't forget to face your BB shell before installing. Make sure a qualified mechanic does this Jones, mainly cus they're expensive tools and you don't wanna be accused of damaging them!

  • Don't forget to face your BB shell before installing. Make sure a qualified mechanic does this Jones, mainly cus the bicycle retail industry is struggling and needs as much high-margin trade as it can get.

    ftfy.

  • Hey, anyone got a spare piece of corrugated plastic or a used wheel cover I can have/borrow? (700c)

I popped two spokes last time and it seems silly not to have one on as my wheel is only 32h.

  • Those tools ain't cheap.
