I'd suggest that 6" of travel and a triple crown fork are needed to avoid certain death.
That could be a problem- Lefty fork on my bike.
I now fear the course.

You seriously should fear it on a mountain bike - the course is easy but the riders are demonically fast. I rode one of the races last year on my mountain bike and was being lapped by everyone and overtaken by 12 year olds. I don't think a suspension fork and 2.2 inch tyres helped, but the main problem is that they are seriously fit and probably do training, both of which I consider borderline cheating.

this is true, however if we have enough entries we'll try have a completely separate race for SS / Fixed / First timers ....under Go Race status

I may have to aim for DFL, just to keep my spirits up.

all those who went for that tri-cross bike evans were knockinbg out cheaply recently are laughing now
time to source a cyclocross bike -

I reckon there will be some serious competition for DFL.
I've never raced cyclocross before. -

21 low gears, Continental Vertical Pro's, 4" of travel and I don't know the course- DFL is mine!

I had a lot of fun when I did my one and only race - despite being ground into the dust by children

cyclocross is without doubt one of the hardest forms of bike racing...flat out right from the gun...but bloody good fun if you don't take it too seriously. I haven't raced cyclocross in approx 13 years so i'll be plodding along at the back trying not to annoy the fast riders...some of whom get very annoyed when you're in their way :)

The last time I raced on an off road track was on a BMX where I took out 4 riders by
trying to take a shortcut round the bowl.I was not popular! -

Should be even more interesting though having never ridden cyclocross fixed.
Plenty of mountain biking fixed, but it's a whole different kettle of fish. :) -

Are you going to race Matt?

I used to race cross on MTB, amazing training, because it's tough, fitting the thinnest knobblies or semi-slicks you can get your hands on will help, back in my day this, for me, was conti cross countrys.

I've got just the tyres for my MTB but still think I'm going to use my steamroller.
It'll just be more fun. -

Cunt.
And yes, but none of my forks will take knobblies. I think.
If only my bro still had his Pomp, that would be awesome. If I can borrow one with knobblies i may get involved.
What about you andy?
For those wanting to get some sneaky training in, the Herne Hill Late Summer Off Road Series starts on the 26th of August.
