  • Shutting down Reader??

    Bastards

I feel the same! I use Reader all day, and apparently many others do too judging by the huge migration to Feedly. I can't imagine why google thinks this is a good idea. They say it isn't worth the resources.

I've been using Feedly for a week now and it's pretty nice. They've set it up so that it syncs with your Reader for now, and when google pulls the plug they'll already have an easy way to migrate.

  • Looks like it only runs on firefox. Work restrict us to IE

  • Why would they do that? Restricting you from using IE would make more sense

  • Looks like it only runs on firefox. Work restrict us to IE

It runs on a few platforms, but not IE. Good time to switch to a proper browser ;)

  • If only I could.

Chrome at home and the do an iOS app so at least two of my bases are covered.

  • When I go to Maps it's started to show the entire of London as default. Can I change it back to automatically show my home location (which I have stored in My Places) or is it something they've changed?

  • anyone hit 'I'm feeling lucky' recently?

  • Just hit the spam button on Gmail and not only reported the spam they also offered to 'try' and unsubscribe me from the list which seemed to work.

  • Anyone going to Google IO? Of course you're not.

Where's the best place to find out what they're doing. JFGI would be my answer but I'm actually after say the twitter feed of the best live blogger type dude/dudette there. Any thoughts?

Bump! This is still really annoying. If it can manage to show me the city I live in, why not my local area?

I'm sure I read something about this months and months ago but I can't find anything now.

  • What you only get London?
I get the whole of the USA

  • That's because you go on .com not .co.uk

Also if you have a google login you can choose where it closes in on.

  • FFS - "Default locations are no longer available. The default location feature sent users to the same location no matter which city they were actually in, so we believe that automatic location is more useful in consistently contributing to relevant results"

    Okay.

  • Orly? Mine still goes to my chosen location

  • Google Maps can be strange sometimes:

  • That'll be the intentional 'mistake'. It's so that they can identify their own maps when other people/companies use them.

Same with some asian rugs. The perfect ones are the fakes made in a factory, the imperfect ones have been hand made.

No. The missing section of Hackney Road appears in Dublin, Ireland so google doesn't have to pay tax in the UK

  • Oh, so they're bigger cunts that I though

  • There's some cool and scary stuff going on..

"Highlight. Vic shows the 696 photos from his last vacation, says he knows there are great pictures in there, but “I don’t have time to pick them out because my vacation is over.”

So now Google Plus will pick the best ones for you. How? Glad you asked. It can do things like make sure to just find ones that are in focus, or have bad exposure. But there’s other cool stuff too. It will look for landmarks, like the Eiffel tower, if there are people in the photo, if those people in your picture are smiling (wow), if the smiling people in your photo are your family.

This is one of those Google features that’s incredibly cool but also a little unnerving. "

    Ha!

  • "Singhal says that he dreamt as a child in India of building a computer that could answer all your questions. Now he’s building it.

Search is moving to a new experience: Answer, Converse, and Anticipate.

The knowledge graph allows it to answer questions it could not before like “What are the movies by J.J. Abrams.” Google has been continuously improving it. Singhal says that it’s now going to give you important statistics, and even anticipate your next question. So you search for population of India, and not only will it show that, but also how it compares to the population of the US and China, because those are the most frequently requested questions."

  • Cool, just got the invite to the new Google Maps trial.

  • Does anyone use the 2 factor authentication? I thought it seemed sensible to use it as I have half my life with google but it still seems like a beta test. Works on some things but others you have to generate a one-off password for (including your phone) but there's no real detail as to when you need use these one-off passwords.

Also it doesn't seem to work with Chrome which is a pretty big flaw, I just constantly get a sign-in error.

Anyone had any luck with this or shall I just consign it to the "good idea, terribly implemented" category and stop using it?

  • what's googe?
