Rather than "why is LGG so famous?" can someone help me with the whole Florence ATM thing?
I was waiting to have an eyetest yesterday and the thing with Dizzee was on the radio and I could not believe what I was hearing. Did they release a live recording as the single? Did she have any monitoring at all??
Her voice on the studio version is unlistenable but that made me want to stick knitting needles in my ears.

HotnJuicy wrote the lyrics to Horny (apparently it took them a whole twenty minutes) and 3 of a Kind did the same with Babycakes. Neither of which are short on innuendo or sexual content. I think it's fair to say that those two songs very clearly blow out of the water the connotation that writing your own music is a mark of credibility.
Getting a song about facefucking into the top ten is, to be fair, nothing new or special. The Knack managed to get a song about being attracted to an underage girl to number one in far more conservative times. Khia trumped that with a song that clearly advocates rimming that got to number 4.
I have never heard of any of those people with the exception of The Knack. Which is not me being snippy but kind of my whole point.
It's not the fact that she writes her own music which makes her likeable in my eyes. It's not the filthiness of her songs. It's not the fact that she has a proper work ethic. It's not the fact that she sells millions of records.
It's all those things put together that make me think that if we're going to have globe-spanning pop chicks out there, they might as well be of the Lady Gaga. I'd rather my kids look up to someone who takes pride in what they do for its own sake than Britney Spears or whoever. No?

The quality of pop music has definitely nosedived over the last few years. Have you listened to Radio 1 recently? It's a fucking joke. Maybe the BBC should consider dropping R1 instead.

radio 1 has a few good shows same with 1xtra, but they do have to cater to everyones taste. we listen to bbc 6 at work and most of it's pretty shit IMO, but they do play a good tune roughly every hour or so

I was listening to the top ten in the car on Sunday evening and was shocked at what I heard. Every song in the top ten is utter hogs piss, apart from maybe the Alicia Keys song.
This speaks for itself:

In all fairness, what the fuck? what are you lot moaning about? ...you sound like bill grundy?
You (mostly) are all moaning about a woman who has been catapulted into international diva status in just over 18 months...that is some accolade, she hasn't done it without fucking hard work and having some insight as to whom and what she is...A woman with talent and a sense of humour....she does this with a huge slice of self deprecating humour, and huge irony (considering she is american)...and the balls(!!!) to go one further than most...
ie the kermit outfit....the gloves that are just fingers....the shoe coat...all totally fucking up there own arse fashion creations...all totally over the top and all designed to get a response from those of you that want to give an opinion...oh my god...!!!! she was wearing a shoe as a hat!!! and you wasted your breath and energy by raising an eyebrow...remember kids...they are like clitorises?
The people that have put her on that pedestal...are Women that are between 12-20 and they are the people in on the joke....the joke being that they know full well that she actually can do it, and has proved that time and time again. She can sing, and she can acapella with a piano in front of a crowd of 10,000 people and not fuck it up...youtube it...there are loads of clips that show her doing 'it' and doing it well...
If any of you would like to perform to a crowd even one tenth of that size and not shit rocks...I suggest you all shut up.
Oh and one more thing...pistanator...you sound like you are terrified by strong women...it's a bad look, really...it's a terrible one, try something different...

Ha! I was also listening to the top 10 for the first time in forever. Half the songs seem to sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks with the vocodering everywhere.
Aaah - getting old. I remember wondering when the day would come when I had not the faintest idea (or care) what was at number one. Well - turns out it was a while ago.

I don't know any of her other stuff but Poker Face is a classic pop song of incredible magnitude and anyone who says otherwise is a gaymo.
A GAYMO, sir.

WingedAngel, I think you may be confusing mass marketing for hard work and arrogance for being a "strong woman", but I've only heard 1 song so what do i know.

She's making a load of money for herself doing something she enjoys, good for her!
And she's not killing seals or polar bears or melting polar ice caps or whatever the latest eco-worry is.

There's plenty of good music around today, sure the stuff in the Top 40 is usually a load of crap that all sounds the same, but there's still some good music out there.
The fact that I even know who she is annoys me.
