  • this is a wind up right?

    indeed

  • I took it seriously. didn't you?

yes. i'm digging around for some out of date rolls of EPP and VHC and phoning metro to see if my account is still valid

  • i know exactly what a holga is and what lomo camera is. i just refuse to accept that vignetting, sharpness fall off, added saturation, lack of contrast, lens artifacts, uncontrolled flare etc etc = creativity or you suddleny become a better photographer when you use one. the argument that some people use of " it makes you take your time and think more about your images" is bullshit, just take your time and think more about your images with your 'normal' camera.
a holga placed in the hands of a monkey doesn't make a creative monkey.

Sounds a bit like the arguement about riding breakless will make you a better rider.

Note, after riding breakless I think I did become a better rider...

check under the stairs. Behind the stepladder

  • cake > camera

    FACT!

cross processing old film is twice as creative, also get them to push it about three stops

You should try brakeless riding to, thats pretty fun :p

  • cross processing old film is twice as creative, also get them to push it about three stops

if it's film that's no longer made it's triple creative . i may haver some kodak panther 100-x somewhere? it was shit so they didn't make it for very long

  • What I want to know is when are we going to install a video camera inside a polo ball? Eat that, Big Lebowski.

  • I never said you become a better photographer because you use a Holga, and that certainly is not my opinion.
As I said before, it was by way of explaining why I''m 'taking snaps' if I'm a 'professional photographer'. I simply meant it to explain that what I wanted to do here is take some photos for fun, rather than the (semi) 'professional' stuff I'm commissioned to do.

I don't think your rant was aimed at me, particularly as I haven't ever used that argument, but I apologise for hitting a nerve here.

I"m thinking I'll just leave it.

Wicksie - Mr Smyth doesn't do fun. now stop provoking him

  • if it's film that's no longer made it's triple creative . i may haver some kodak panther 100-x somewhere? it was shit so they didn't make it for very long

How far do you have to go to be gettin quadruple creative?

  • i'm not provoking him. i was just interested in the concept of how a camera can be 'creative' (how can an inanimate object be creative?) as opposed to an individual expressing themselves creatively using a camera.

  • How far do you have to go to be gettin quadruple creative?

no idea? let me know when you find out.

  • You should try brakeless riding to, thats pretty fun :p
do keep up, it's now called 'brakless'

  • I haven't reached that much hallowed level of photographic skill yet, i'm still using a pin-hole camera made out of a shoebox, with a bamboo monopod.

  • How far do you have to go to be gettin quadruple creative?

if you could find a way to cross process polaroid i think youd have it.

  • Ahem, NO POLO. NO TALK.

Wicksie, come take pictures if you want.
James, either play polo or piss off out of forum 24
    Smyth, you're a funny bitch.
Fred, Gabes is right we don't know the rules and the refs disagree about them too.

  • if you could find a way to cross process polaroid i think youd have it.

    :extreme photo geek moment:
i had this technique that i used many years ago of slightly overexposing type55 B&W polaroid and sandwiching it together with a 5x4 colour neg (VHC). the odd thing was the polaroid negative had an image that was bigger than then colour neg. it grew in size by about 1mm over it's length so was never in register with the colour, i would rotate the polaroid neg about 1° which gave the background of the object i was shooting a weird twisted movement that was more pronnounced towards the edges of the image (registration was centered). the results were a painterly and swooshy with a sarah moon type feel. i guess it would take a few minutes in photoshop but moire would be a problem.

what about those instant polaroid slides with massive grain and punchy reds, anyone remember that? you had to process them in a wind up machine thingy.
    :end of photogeek moment:

  • Fred, Gabes is right we don't know the rules even though the refs went to a lot of time and effort to make them clear to us. Shows what happens when you drink cider in the morning and smoke Chukker's weed.

    Fixed

  • Fixed

So why are we still discussing rules?

  • So why are we still discussing rules?

Because we have no confidence in how we play and look to dot ca.

  • +1, let's just keep playing and reffing how we did in the euros. it was great!
