  • ;861647']Most people play where you can score on the backs of the team that just scored, as in when their backs were still turned. That seems unfair for tournament play and the people I've been talking to trying to write the ehbpc rules mostly agreed. The 2 players in the goal area seemed like the best way to 'reset' the game. It is opposite to what is played most places but for tourney play it seems to be the fairest.

Totally agree. Didn't have a problem with shouting at people either!

  • yorgo your style of play is considered dangerous.

  • I'm sorry, but bike polo is a contact sport. Sitting in a goal makes you fair game. Swiping mallets and checking goalies should be allowed. This is your solution to getting the goalies more active.

  • It's too bad we didn't get to play you guys, Yorgo. With your shot and ability to pass, I probably could have gone the whole game out of goal.

Mike the way that most people play actually feels a lot less unfair than having to go back to your goal area, which actually increases the likelihood that people will score on you with your back turned!

Keep it simple... 1) score, 2) go back to halfway point, and 3) wait for either the ball or one of the players on that team that's just been scored on to cross. game on!

  • No own goals? I don't get it.

Ya neither does the rest of north america. this rule is specific to Seattle/Portland. They've been playing the longest, so we can differ a bit to them, but this one is strange.

    Goal! Hahahahaha!

  • Mallet hacking is fair game.

... but some players spend too much time trying to take out the goalie when they should probably spend their time better on trying to score and play the ball instead. Too many times I have seen Dale waste time trying to take me out and missed an opportunity to get the ball instead.

Most 'goalies' have learned to avoid being taken down by mallet hackers anyway, just lift your mallet up and trackstand or take the hacker out instead.

  • 3 minute time limit in goal? goalies not allowed in the D?
    WTF?

please don't complicate our simple rules.

    • mallet on mallet
    • goalie in goal is 'in game play'
  • Yorgo: by having a person in goal, it means there are only 2 people out attacking. Versus 3 people out attacking and no person sat in goal. Either way there's still 3 players on the court* and it is fair game.

Unless you get taken out for 30 seconds for foul play ;-)

she speaks the truth! a good goalie isn't a tripod!

  • Hops is London's Goalie Queen. If she says that checking/mallet hacking is okay then that's all I need.

  • It still means you're a c*nt if you do it though Em ;)

  • Two things:

    1. Was the play, in general, at the weekend boring?

    2. If you get in to checking, hacking, at some point you will get retaliation for perceived 'unfair' challenges. As I said before, the line seperating a legitimate hack from a wild attack, and a fair check from a violent assault, is very subjective.

That was the consensus on the live feed. And I think some games could have been made more exciting by ramming the goalie with full force (Geneva/Berlin2/Karlsruhe2/Canada1)

Eye for an eye - we've played like that before without any problems. Let's not change it

    I don't mind a little rough-house in throw-ins, I just don't like seeing violence at tourneys.

don't trust those fuckers on the live feed, they weren't really there. it was damn exciting, for at least the top 8 teams (and only half those games were visible to the live feed).

i think my vote on the perma-goalie question is just to open the goals an extra 12 inches / 30 cm, to make the goalies move around more.

  • It still means you're a c*nt if you do it though Em ;)

    I can live with that.

  • TAG: yorgo = new dale

    Genius.

  • That was the consensus on the live feed

Polo is always going to look boring on a live feed FFS!

Ask any person there on the day whether the games were boring and you will get a resounding 'No!'

  • I just hope I'm not going to be on people's ignore list

I don't think this is necessary. A gentle tug of the mallet will take care of tripod-goalies.

Anyway, there are quite a few goal keeping styles and one of the best goal keepers I've seen never just sits in goal but moves in and out of goal.

  • I think that body checking and mallet hooking is perfectly fine, also I dont see the need for change or introduce new rules, the game is not boring, and if you ask me I think it will be more boring without a golie, where long shots will be all over the place.
Also a good golie has to be aware of that shoulder or mallet coming his/her way.

    you're on my subtitle list
