So does anyone know the best place to get printer stickers? Waterproof ones would be handy. Have been looking for a sticker to cover up the old one on my helmet, this should do it.
I think anything that raises awareness is a good thing. The Government clearly have no clue so we should tell them how it really is from the perspective of people who face the dangers on a daily basis.
Happy to help in any way I can. -

Wicksie - Big Daddy and Murtle might be able to help

I've always had this crazy idea that all HGVs should be banned from london, but people say it's too extreme, I wonder if people would think it was too extreme to ban any lorry that has killed either a pedestrian or cyclist?
(perhaps until the company the lorry worked for has given extra training to all it's drivers)
That way drivers that killed people would be a liability to the company , giving companies a reason not to employ dangerous drivers?

I think that is too extreme, remember people also live in the central, so that mean truck are restricted to a specific time of days, says midnight where there is less traffic, but the problem is that it will cause a lots of disturbance to the local who live near the busy route.
the best solution is to change the law that the drivers is automatically at fault when they have a collision with a cyclists, unless proven otherwise, this way the drivers will drive with more caution that the law is no longer on their side (to an extend).

Crazy?
According to a study published in the British Medical Journal in 1994, called ‘Deaths of Cyclists in London’, ... ...the risk of heavy goods vehicles being involved in accidents in which cyclists die in inner London can be estimated at five times that of buses, 14 times that of light goods vehicles, and 30 times that of cars. The study also suggested that until the factors leading to this excess risk are understood, a ban on heavy goods vehicles in urban areas should be considered.

That's why I said that only hgvs that have killed or injured someone. You'd still be able to get HGVs in london, just not the one's that are cunts. (the timing of HGVs throughs up alsorts of other problems)

Although as a cyclist I love this idea, it's not going to happen until there are more people who consider themselves "cyclists" than people who consider themselves "drivers". And to be fair if a cyclist goes up the inside of an HGV (or even if they pull up in front of an HGV after over taking it) it's not the HGVs fault if they get crushed. I've seen it at work in Holland, it means loads of cyclists cycling like blind idiots.
Bill I'm afraid that the BMJ have had alsorts of articles suggesting things that the majority of people wouldn't contimplate, that is one of them.

Yea lets wait until the death/injury has happened - lets not prevent them.
Great idea

it's amazing those posters all have no helmets on
you can't scratch your head with a helmet on.

Yeah lets ask for changes in the law that aren't going to happen rather than do something that will put fear into companies and cause at least some to become proactive.
Also, lets use sarcasm as a great way to convay ideas, without seeming like rude idiots.

And let's fight amongst ourselves and blame each other! ;-)

lets kill a lorry driver for each cyclist that gets killed. I bet that'd get in the papers.

It's all your fault, bill!

Yeah, bill invented the ASL through his journalistic work.

Yeah, so where do you start?
We need someone famous or revered to go under a lorry then the papers would have a field day and get stuck in pulling together this ground swell. Ideally it's a minor Big Brother contestant or trash tabloid darling like Docherty and not a literary genius, scientific great or David Hasslehoff

This is a very cynical suggestion, but probably true.
Maybe it would take Boris going under one to get a change to happen. Or 'cuddly' David Cameron.

Sorry bill, fixed. Probably reads a bit sarcastically, but not meant to, a very close friend of mine was telling me about this amazing article she'd read a few years ago about an articulated lorry death in london... by some currier called bill :-)

My first instinct was that this is a good idea. I can see what people mean about sending a negative message, but there's no point pretending cycling isn't dangerous. Anyone getting on a bike should be aware of the risks. I agree that a web address for more information would be good though, otherwise it kinda leaves you hanging.

I preferred it the way it was! Either way, no offence taken.

Not at all. You don't need big lorries in central London, it's not that big an area, they could transfer deliveries to smaller (ideally electric) vehicles to do the last few miles.
Practically speaking a ban on 'killer' lorries would be much quicker and easier to implement, I imagine.

The only thing even remotely resembling this is the lorry guys at the London Cycling Campaign, or perhaps the FORS people at TfL.
