Cambridge Jihad, you have been ordered to change your name by the RespectPoloHeritageSquad*.

Personally, I think having non-london teams play will become an issue, they would have to travel down here weekly for 19+ weeks (if we have 20 teams). Poll?

I think it may cause an issue, but we don't know till we try! I don't think we should ban oxbridge just because we don't think they will put the effort in!
I think it may cause an issue if they think they'll only be coming down for the weekends if they get drawn against a team that can't play on the given two weekends, but they will be able to physically make it for games in the evening...

you have a point louis, we could just try it. If we have 20 teams, we're going to have to turn around fixtures fast, otherwise it could take nearly a year to do the league. So possibly 7 day fixture windows. Camb/Ox can play whenever, so long as the opposing team can make it that day/night. Of course, they will have to play each other at some point, and they're welcome to do it in their respective cities.

I think one of the main advantages of a London only league, is games can be organized and played in the same day - should a window of opportunity show itself. This is useful if teams can't make another date.

2 week fixtures with a week overlap?
Fixtures announced weekly but allowing two weeks to play them?
This makes things easier for those of us who have occupations which are not polo friendly but still means that we get the games done in 21 weeks rather than 40 (If we're looking at a league of 20 teams). -

I really like the 2 week fixtures, handed out weekly idea.

If an out of town team wants to invest a large amount of time and £ to come play polo in London then it seems harsh to turn them down*.
*assuming they understand that [~20 weeks of] their lives would be better lived in London

Can we work with this basic set of rules?
- 3 games per fixture.
- 2 weeks to play.
- no-show counts as a forfeit (unless you can rearrange before end of league).
- a forfeit gives the other team 1 point and 1 goal per game (3 points and +3 GD per fixture).
- a referee should be present at all games.
- league can occur on Tuesday team night or any other time, so long as it does not conflict with throw-ins.
- home team to bear responsibility of making the fixture happen with other team.
And then vote on the rest?
- Time limit for games (10, 12, 15, 20, none)?
- Subs can be league players (yes, no)?
- League results count towards next year's Euros (no; yes, first place; yes, more spots than first)?
- In the case of the forfeit what does the team that turned up get (3 points and no goals, 3 points and 3 goals, something else)?
Just read through the thread to catch up. Here are the things that have been talked about that aren't yet on the 'stuff to vote on' list ...
Should a ‘league’ night be specified?
Would Triple fixtures work?
Can Teams have 4 players, i.e. fixed sub …
Draws vs Golden Goal to decide games
Do teams need Home courts?
Should there be a limit on the number of teams?
Should there be an Entrance fee?
Should there be a Geographic restriction (i.e. ‘London’ teams only?)
Does the league need or want external Sponsorship or Fundraising?
Is placing in the league related to a UK Championships qualification?? (this last is just an idea from me) - 3 games per fixture.

In reference to the Cambridge teams joining the London league , i am not convinced there is enough players here dedicated to traveling down every 2 weeks to keep their appointments for every league fixture. The two teams registered from Cambridge are from only two individuals expressing an interest and not from full teams . This sunday i didn't get the impression of a huge amount of interest or dedication to carry a team through 20 weeks .
I would love to be involved but realistically i can't imagine always wanting/being able to commute down during the winter after long hours on the stall . I would prefer to do something less demanding like an (odd) special guest appearance from home counties teams . -

You're also very welcome to come to play on our floodlit court on Tuesday evenings too

Tell me about it, if I lived on my own I'd live as near to charing cross as I could afford.

There is no advantage to fixed sub is there? -

I think using a previously used name should be a no no.
My new team is Malice RMY.
Kidding.
Yes it's true folks JiHaD (The Real JiHaD) is over as Hassan has to possibly go back to the US and I am going to Melbourne in November to live.
I am trying to sort out a team where I may switch out when I have to leave.
Leave a space for us.

I shall remove our team name for the sake of the thread.
i'm not entirely sure how serious the 'cambridge jihad' team is. i would imagine alcohol or combustable illegals and timely internet access may have had something to do with their registered interest.

Ozram is 17 and was probably stoned when he posted "Cambridge Jihad". I would not be unduly worried about a team with that name ever leaving the realm of his imagination.

Was so looking forward to beating JiHaD this season though...
