Buy a BMX, it will be cheaper and last longer.

yeah but shitter.

• #4
Go for an IRO.
-

What do you want it for, general riding? By 'worked hard' do you mean tricks? If so then the volume cutter frames have a life time warranty, i think and i'm sure there are a few more.
-
• #6
Sorry, I didn't mean too sound that harsh.
My BJ is (probably) the best bike in the universe, but I don't do bar spins.
If I wanted to learn tricks, I'd buy a different bike. -
• #7
i was only joking too mate.
No tricks here - just hard rider, ride off road a bit and i like a bike i can use and abuse and knock about. I have to say it wasn the idea of barspins or owt that got me - i like the thought of oversized tubing plus lugs - best of bost worlds!
@Ed - I'll have a nose at Iro's now...
-
• #8
frankly, a normal frame is usually enough to sustain a few knock, unless you like to bunny hop everyday and smash down kerbs.
-
• #9
fair enuff, even so IMO i wouldn't wanna ride 'hard' with a bob, i'm sure it would hold up fine i'd just feel bad!
-

@porter, to be honest mate, you wouldn't enjoy riding your bike that much if you're more worried about getting damaged, or ev en a small nick on the paintjob.
there's this theory I got about 'beater', that the less you care about the bike, the more you'll enjoy riding it, this is the general impression I got from certain people here who have a beater and declare that they have a lots of fun riding it.

I guess the thing is I've got a couple of ok bikes, I jst fancy building up something really nice - i dont intend t set out t ruin it or anything but I dont want t be scared of ragging it.
Just had another perv and it's got cable guides though - i really fucking hate cable guides. I'm assuming they cojuld remove them though - they're building their off the pegs to order at the mo.
@Ed: I'm with you entirely there - but I also want t be able t smile inside a bit knowing how good a bike im riding!

If you're really after something like that, the original Bob Jackson Vigorelli is capable enough to sustain london famous london's punishment (if that what kind of ride you're referring to), and it's cheaper than the 'alleycat' frame.

I agree, i've just bought the Cutter V3 frame so that i can have a bike i won't worry about taking a (small) beating. I know until i've dropped it and knocked it by accident a few times i'll still be careful with it!

yeah the volumes aren;t too bad.
Ed, the vigorelli is a 1" threaded though, non? I'll have a nose though. I also thought maybe an fbm once the forks are more readily available to match... a BJ's classier though. And from Leeds (Leeds!Leeds!Leeds!)
-
• #15
yes, a 1" threaded as standard but I think you can able to have it threadless too if you like, after all, all they have to do is simply not threaded the fork.
-
• #16
1" threadless is quite limited though isnt it? I have to admit i dont know much about it...
-
• #17
not really, just a simple shim and you'll be right as rain.
those shim are easy to get and most good bike shop will have them, I think I have one lying around when I used it on my old bike (with a 1" threadless fork), I'll look for it.

Get a surly.
I doubt you'll be able to bar spin, but it's cro-mo tubing so you won't be killing it anytime soon either.

The Alleycat graphics are pure anti porn too
So... I'm in the market for a new fancy bike - what do people think of these?
I want something with a 11/8 headset (I dont like quills) and something that I can work hard - when I say fancy I mean it'll be good kit but 'well used'!
