Early Red Hot Chilli Peppers for sheer energy, magic johnson era......so much energy.
Beastie Boys, just always very tight performers
Courtney Pine at greenbelt 10+ years ago, an amazing jazz saxophonist, circular breathing on a tenor sax whist walking through the crowd.
Moby at the same festival, about the time he was going through his thrash metal phase, so much energy again

Wow, you really ARE a hipster :P
Hey, I don't fuck about. I am a most bodacious dude when it comes to asymetric haircuts and kids trousers. Love that shit.
I saw Health for the second time a few months back, gunna see them again this tour. Fucking amazing. Video quality isn't up for much though.
YouTube - HEALTH LIVE "Crimewave"
On a similar kick, I've seen Fuck Buttons a few times and they were pretty awesome, if you're into that kind of thing.
This thread ended when someone mentioned Springsteen though. Ludicrously energetic and fun live, even if you don't like the music. -

Agree, but they did hee haw to back it up. To be fair anything that followedfailed in comparison.
The best live gig Ive been to was Paul Weller touring with his first self titled album it was memorable! Wild Wood was almost as good then it all went south.
The second coming is a fantastic album. You had probably taken a step back and were listening to oasis and ocean colour scene.

I also grew up with the Beastie Boys as my mates dad had a VW van and kept having his VW emblem stolen lol
I got sent to the headmasters office on the first day of 'big school' for nickin VW badges off the teachers cars in the car park :-(

My fathers stories of faces gigs are brilliant. Wish I could have been there. Damn this youth of mine.
It also meant that I missed out on The Smiths live. -

The 'best' gig I ever went to was Microdisney in January 1987. Not the best gig ever but the evening went well.
Can't remember where I saw Ivor Cutler; the Bloomsbury Theatre maybe?YouTube - Microdisney - Birthday Girl

Did anyone ever see Fela? Bet that would've been a stormer.
Random fact - I'm currently living with 2 of his guitarists
Steve and Damien Marley doing a Bob set at Glastonbury, I felt like crying/jumping/dancing/singing/shouting all at once, the sun came out for 2 hours for the set and it was fucking awesome to hear 20k odd people singing along to the tunes. It's also the nearest I'll ever get to seeing the man himself live :(

+1 to talking heads, if i could see any band live, it would be them.
Lyceum 78 is in my top ten gigs of all time.
has anyone seen hawkwind ? i haven't but i wonder what they were like ?
I had to put up with a Hawkwind gig at the first Futurama in Leeds. they were supposed to headline, with the Only Ones supporting. Bill was changed, I missed last train home.
Mission of Burma. Ok, maybe not all time...
MoB would have been better when I saw them if the guitarist hadn't suffered horribly from tinnitus.
It also meant that I missed out on The Smiths live.
The Smiths live in Jubilee gardens at a free GLC gig, is definitely in my top 20
I can't believe that noone has mentioned Jerry Lee Lewis, the Clash or Buzzcocks yet.
Pfft, youth of today! -

\m/ When I saw Slayer live a few years ago, my girlfriend dived for and caught Kerry Kings plectrum, then gave it to me. Fucking awesome.
My nomination for the thread is either Mogwai, Earth or The Cure. All shook the muscles from my bones in one way or another.

Was never a massive fan of theirs but saw Radiohead at Beniccasim about 5 years ago - they were stupidly good, it completely made me change my mind about them.
New Order at Reading around 87 ish - never seen such a mixed crowd united in that way since, apart from...
Altern 8 in Shelleys car park - mayhem (can only find the audio but am sure there's a video kicking around the web somewhere):

Managed to blag my way into an Arctic Monkeys gig in Central Park and it was incredible.
Incredibly tight band and they can put on a good show.
Best gig I've been to was Converge when they played Canterbury, ridiculous.

Btw, anyone else for the Stone Roses being the most overrated band of all time? /duck and cover
