Kraftwerk for being the most though provoking (what constitutes a live show etc)

+1 to Kraftwerk, their recent show at Manchester Velodrome was fucking stunning.

Ha!
Public Enemy at their height, about '87... Best show I've ever been at...
The Scientists, when they were in London from 83-86... The most mesmerising, discordant, ear-blistering rock 'n' roll I've ever been fortunate enough to witness... Incredible... They taught MBV (amongst others) a fuck of a lot and don't get anywhere near the credit they deserve...
The Birthday Party, '81-'83... Wild teenage memories... Nick Cave is still a complete and utter bellend tho'... -

Lightning Bolt, when they play real loud are pretty unbeatable, but the best band I've ever seen are Gravetemple, a collaboration between Julian Cope, and a couple of members of Sunn 0))) and Burning Witch.

In my day there was no YouTube... You had to get pissed on four cans of Tennent's Super outside the venue, give the man at the door some money, get beaten up by half a dozen bouncers, wrestle your way to the bar, spill your pint on some northern twat who then also beats the crap outta ya, go down the front, go apeshit, get soaked to the skin with other people's sweat, lose half your clothes, get beaten up by a dozen more bouncers on the way out then walk home cuz you've spent all your dole cheque on a kebab afterwards... Those were the days... ;]

YouTube - Pink Floyd Live at earls court 1980 d2 09- Run Like Hell
You had to be there to really appreciate it and got in for free ;o))
so it's Friday so let's kick this around.... so you need solid proof.
I'll start: Parliament.
Anyone who's seen the Houston concert knows it's a contender for best live show of all time. This clip has the incredibly sexy Glenn Goins killing it, the whole thing is a carnival of hot, deranged funk. The nine minutes here hits spiritual levels, awe-inspiring.
