Oliver, I'll chip in as well. She was so gracious about the whole thing it actually restored a bit of my faith in humanity.
I won't be able to help with the flowers choice though; I only know what to buy when I'm in trouble and that has taken many years to get into my thick head.
edit: Just asked Mrs. Generate to take a peek at the site and she liked the 'Blue Perfect Gift'. It even comes with chocolates.
Caveat emptor: she looked at it for a whole 5 seconds.

Thanks for chipping-in offers, guys. As no objections to the choice of bouquet have been received, I'll proceed to order that later today--or post here if you object very strongly. :)

That sounds good, and sound advice from Duncan.
I'll PM you Linda's address if you want to send it--I don't know her surname, though.

I was just thinking about the ride and remembered the rodeo we passed. Does anybody know where that was?
That was the most bizarre thing I've seen here; American flags, Confederate flags, BBQs, cowboys... in Essex. I'd be keen to check that out sometime although I suspect it will be next year.

It was here:

Well, that was quick and couldn't ask you to be more specific. ;)
Cheers, Oliver.

Apologies to Dylan for losing him (and to James for having to go out and find him). Despite the 'not on my watch!' bravado one was bound to slip through the net as the gap between the back and the bunch was quite vast at times. Dylan was at the back with Ed and myself and decided to press on. I had assumed he caught sight of the bunch and whizzed off to catch them but I guess he missed a turning (like Ed and myself did) and kept on going in the wrong direction hoping to catch a glimpse of the bunch around the next corner! Hope you enjoyed the ride anyway, fellas!
no worries man!! - was completely my own fault for taking a phone with only about 1hr battery left! i thought i was catching up with the others but after about 20mins realised i had taken a wrong turn (i think i was actually really close to you guys at one point on the other side of matching green) - but having no phone or map just headed to harlow and took the train back!
overall was a really great ride .. really enjoyed the route .. was great to meet ppl ... and the secret stop was cool (if a little freaky!) .. and nice weather too! the terrain and pace was pretty much spot on (imho)
would love to do sthing like this again and would be really up for a monthly ...
james logos and i are actually rolling up that way again this weekend and doing london > high beech > thaxted >saffron walden ... essex is a great place to cycle as the roads are relatively flat (certainly compared to heading south into kent)
thanks to oliver for organising!
ileas - sorry to hear about your accident - hope you making a good recovery ...

Marco took one. He's e-mailed me and I've e-mailed him back, but he hasn't sent it.

Yes it did happen. I think he was on his way back from a children's party.
I d forgotten about the Rodeo in the middle of nowwhere; but I am used to weirdness in rural essex

There were some really cool (and bizarre) things going on that day and we seemed to pass them all! I'd love to get out that way again soon.

You missed Oliver getting into a helmet debate with a horse.
The guy gets out of the car while wearing his horse costume and pretty much the first thing he says is 'it may not be a great time to say it but you're not wearing a helmet'. I retort that it's not only untimely but also irrelevant, he says 'ah, but the statistics say otherwise', and I say 'I know the statistics, mate, and no, they don't say that'. That was the extent of the 'debate'. He got back in the car and they drove off.
Oliver - I'd like to chip in.
