Maybe just put a high enough asking price on it that you won't be hard done by, say £750. It'd look like a good deal at that price, and could attract more than one bidder. Also, you could pull it up to 24 hours before, say on your listing that interested bidders should bid before one day away or it will be pulled.

Remember, if dogsballs was here, he'd be telling you that just because you might have spent a grand on it, it doesn't make it worth a grand. Sad but true.

I reckon it'll go for that to some old beardy collector type with too much time/money on his hands... Best of luck with the sale, Joe... :]
