I've got everything else to switch the sprocket, just missing the most expensive tool!!!!! I'm in West London but will meet anywhere to use the tool.

Sounds like a danger sport, you crazy antipodeans.

I used Matty's earlier today, it was really tough to get the sprocket off, so much so that I bend and broke Matty's chain whip!

Took the bike down to Condor and they had to put it in a vice to get the sprocket off. It turns out that the sprocket was on wrong; counter threaded! BITCH! I purchased a DuraAce sprocket from Cycle surgery on Kensington High street and they fitted it for me the tossers.

Condor thankfully sorted it out and it's threaded on properly now to the hub and they did that free of charge. Thank you Condor.

I just have to pay Matty for the whip I broke!!!

Oh and thanks for the other offers guys.

  • take off your lock ring, put the wheel back into the frame with the chain on at normal tension. stamp on the pedals backwards. done!

  • Reverse rotafixing works too if you are desperate, can mash up the paint on you frame though if you aren't careful.

  • Any one in north london, green lanes area, have a chain whip... anyone, just to borrow, tried the whole jumping on it backwards thing... fail, there may be a can'o fosters in it, not to put anyone off. thanks, and tonight would rock, cheers

easy enough to put a rag (tea towel? sorry J!) round the BB shell first

  • I don't see how you can cross thread a cog. People are retards.

You would think you would tighten by hand first - making it impossible

  • out of interest anyone tried the icetoolz track chain whip evans sell for £6.99? According to their website it support 1/8 chains...

    http://www.evanscycles.com/products/ice-toolz/track-singlespeed-chain-whip-ec018421?query=icetoolz%20chain%20whip

  • by most accounts the best 1 1/8 chainwhip is the shimano (not dura ace) one

35 quid from chain reaction (i ordered one last night)

  • you obviously haven't heard about the new Rapha chainwhip yet James., complete with silk handle.

    and for only £99.99, bargain

  • don't forget the titanium chain

  • what ?

    show me a link?

    those rapha bastards!

maybe that should be their next range of products, team up with someone like good grips who make the nice kitchen utensils with heat proof silicone rubber handles, but with the hair of orphans bonded in for extra tecture

funnily enough when i said by most accounts the shimano chainwhip is the one to get I was actually thinking of one of the conversations with mumbles where I understood more than 40% of the words

  • I don't see how you can cross thread a cog. People are retards.

I know, weird. They would of had to put it on using alot of force right.

The other thing which baffles me is Condor kindly put the sprocket on 'correctly' so how malleable are the threads on a Miche Primato hub?

  • what ?
