Newhaven->Dieppe might be a better crossing, I did it a couple of years ago. You''ll get about 4hours kip on the boat and a cabin isn't very much. Then you have the avenue vert on the french side that will make for an easy mornings ride, getting a healthy distance towards paris.

This looks great! Very tempted indeed...
Have you got a link to the route?Just checked site, how did you find navigating last time?Little scrap of paper with distance and roads or towns to head for plus google map print outs of tricky town centers. Works 98% of the time. I try to keep to main roads to keep the turns down.

Annoyingly it's 20 per bike to put it on the train, unless you put it in a bag and take it on as luggage.

Damn this looks good. The logistics seem pretty simple. I've never been to Paris. I love the idea of rolling up to a patisserie just as they open and gorging on French pastries...
I shan't commit just yet, need to check a few things...

Right then it looks like I'm in!
Who have you booked the ferry with, I can see a sailing at 0555 (arriving 0825) with P&O, is that the right one?
My girlfriend is going to get the train while we ride and we are planning to spend a day or two in Paris, so I won't be getting the train back with you guys. -

I'd love to come to Norths but I live in Oxford so It's a bit far to go for a beer, unfortunately!
The last time I did 24hrs was the London - Oxford ride followed by the Dorset Dash, which came in at just over 200 miles with all the running about I did between the rides. But the pace was fairly relaxed on the DD, so I didn't have a lot of food. I'll make sure I have some emergency rations, but I'm hoping the plan is to stop off in towns/villages along the way to grab some tasty pastries etc... ?
So leave at 2300 Friday and arrive in Paris by 2300 on Saturday, French time? -

Food and Sleep are the two biggies (as well as not going into the red to often)... I wouldn't rely too much on the French shops... last time it was a French holiday so only kebab shops were open, and the French do like not working at the weekends :-) Pasta is good! but whatever works for you... Last year it was really hot, so plenty of sunscreen and two water bottles if poss.
That all sounds good though and yeah 23:00 GMT depart (which is 00:00 GMT+1), arrive 00:00 CET... at least that's the plan. Last time we arrived at 5am sunday morning... If we can keep up 16mph+ we'll be sorted.

I'm confident I can stay awake so long as we keep moving, I seem to be ok cycling on little sleep. But yes, lots of food will be essential. I know what you mean about the French shops too, don't they all close early on Saturdays/lunch times/whenever they feel like it?
I was planning to come back on the Monday but Just had a text saying my gf can't get the time off work, so I might be on the train with you guys. Have you booked a hotel for the night?
