also you have failed to point out what it is your mother has a problem with; the 'fixie' or the fact that you are riding on the roads etc etc

I am dead good at convincing parents to do stuff.
The trick is: NEVER let on that they are being unreasonable. Research, lecture and watch them bow to your superior knowledge.
That said my mum still tells me to wear a helmet every time I speak to her despite my magnificent catalogue of statistics and studies

Is that why your inheritance is now going to Battersea Dogs Home ;o))

accept defeat to your parents and then go on 'Get Your Own Back' for sweet revenge

Yes!* Mind you that did take me a whole YEAR of lecturing my dad on bike sizing and telling him how dangerous it would be for him to ride it.
*I am not actually selling that one.

i get told all the time that its illegal to have no brakes (which i think it is) and how i should wear a helmet. The way i look at it (wearing a helmet) if i come off and i'm not wearing one my dad is gonna say 'i told you so'. Like others have said say it keeps you fit n healthy.

-Like the idea of getting a quote for a road bike... bbbuuuuuttttt I've already got a mountain bike(2003 Specialized SX), a BMX(DK Cleveland) and a beater road(fake Falcon I think) bike, as a result of giving up about 2 years worth of pocket money paying my parents back(I paid the Specialized off this Christmas)...
-If any one has a rear brake and lever that I can buy for 5p or so then that may be a solution.
-I'll suggest they call the London Cycling Campaign
-@coppiThat: I like my house... and it seems like a long way to go, but....
-Balki, if you can phone my mum that would be great.

they'll not know what hit them and you'll be out on your bike shortly afterwardsor get a back brake but don't connect up the cable ;-0

Introduce them to Ma3k and tell them you want to grow up to be just like him.
They won't let you ride your fixed gear but at least you'll get a beating that you won't soon forget.

And learn to love the pain a bit too much and end up like Em.

You could always explain the benefits and stablility of the bike you have chosen to invest in and ride.
Explain your cycling goals and ambitions, demonstrate an understanding and show you have a passion for this, it's not other boys, it's not drugs, it's not drink what would they prefer??!?But if the above doesn't exist and you have just blown your wad to be a fixie skidder with no real idea beyond looking cool then please re-read Mr Smyths post... and also this thread is useless without photos... of you Mum.... For Balki...
