Haha, that's because they never had any actually for sale in the first place, it was just a publicity gimmick, to get people talking.

Their stuff is made in China, which isn't just a problem because of poor working conditions, it also means supporting a regime with an appauling human rights record. But 75% of most crap that we buy is made there! The only answer is to source fabric that hasn't been made in dodgy countries (which isn't easy, there aren't many out there) and make your own stuff, or wait for someone like smear to do it.

you can say that, but what country's regime isn't dodgy? america? for fighting their war against (of, more likely) terror? and this very country where we live? for supporting their ally?

it's not up to me to judge anything you say but it's not up to anyone to judge if you're supporting say, fascists (or any collective of, cnuts...), by spending your money on something made from somewhere. the hierarchy is way too complicated to put it that simply, even without the media owned by people from the above said countries painting the picture you see.

and by the way, who owns those factories? who runs them? aren't they the big capitalists? and mind i say if it's not like this you won't be able to own all the things sitting right in front of you, that maybe one should be ashamed and guilty about buying. it's just like most of the major bike manufacturers are owned by motor companies anyway.

  • I love the moral equivalence of the UK with China

  • we took part in an illegal war with a country miles away from our borders that is no threat, took part in the slaughter of thousands of innocent people and placed our own citizens in the firing line....and lied to the public about about the reasons for doing so? Our police force execute innocent people on the streets and is riddled with corruption,

I think we should stop buying things made in Britain....

  • I was made in Britain. Please stop buying me.

  • I was made in Hong Kong.

  • just had a look at some of the new rapha stuff... it's nice but faaaaarking dear...

does anyone on here intend on setting up a clothing company? Smeear, you said you were thinking about making a jacket?

I for one would be very into the idea of getting something organised.

my experience of clothing is unfortunately limited to designing tees and screenprinting.

incidentally, who sells good quality, nice fitting and inexpensive blank t-shirts these days? uni qlo?

howies blanks are nice but a little expensive for me, whilst i'm not convinced at all about american apparel...

  • "you can say that, but what country's regime isn't dodgy? america? for fighting their war against (of, more likely) terror? and this very country where we live? for supporting their ally?"

velocity rims are australian (i believe) i wouldn't buy anything made by velocity due to Australia's human rights record against it's indigenous peoples. plus hippy comes from there and he smells of wee.

  • Don't get me started on the English and human rights. If Fish and Chips is your national dish why are they always served pre-cooked? Fucking disgraceful.

I did just piss myself. Are you watching me again? You know the restraining order is still in place beeatch..

  • i'm over 500yds away so the restraining order is not being broken but through micro electronics and wireless technology i can indeed confirm that you have pissed yourself.

  • photoben I was made in Hong Kong.

Whilst I wasn't made in Hong Kong (Bahrain, I think), I was born there

  • i like rapha gear because it is pretty good on the bike but you can also wear it off the bike. it is not complete cycling. there is an urban / classic / designy thing going on as well. and it is smartish. but yeah it is expensive.

@ smear or anyone else who is that way skilled.

i definitely think there is room in the market for another trader. go for it.

  • Fuck 140 for that jacket, I could drop at least 3 Fred Perry's for that price

  • Good luck trying to out-market Rapha..

  • there are loads of alternatives out there for a jacket. but i think what lacks here are rapha's fixie style shorts. 3qtrs available here are for mtb/commute, they dont look as smart as the rapha ones. surely there's a market here for those. i like what PCW's got or these http://www.bicyclefixation.com/prod_wool_knickers.html dont like the idea of wool tho...itchy and not really hardwearing. once saw a cool pair in the www, that sorta look like altered and shortened dickies/hardyakka/carhart trousers

  • Nothing wrong with Endura's 3/4s: http://www.endura.co.uk/Dept.aspx?dept_id=112

  • ive got the zyme 3/4s. baggy cargos are sooo 2001 ;)

  • I was born in the 70's.. grew up in the 80's.. in a small country town in Australia.
How good do you think my sense of fashion is?
Now, how much do you think I care about this fact? :)

  • endura 3/4's are good. they get my vote.

  • Fashion gurus unite! high five nimhbus ;)

  • kona pseudopod 3/4's

  • What were the Kona people taking when they thought up that name?

Another vote for Endura Humvee 3/4s here, but another stupid name. What gives?

Those Rapha fixed shorts are a bit chafey and static generating. Smart though, in a school uniform sort of way :S

The fixie shorts and winter hats are the only things I would consider buying from Rapha. Those Fixation ones are very nice, but dry clean only?? Not likely...

The Endura 3/4 look a bit too MTB for my liking. I'm after something a little smarter...any other suggestions anyone? Or is the £100+ Rapha ones (which I can't afford)?

  • Rapha Fixed shorts can be had for £30 during sales. What size are you? I have a pair of new size 36 I think that I might get rid of.
