  • Sense of humour failure?

  • No no no, it's just there's more to cycling than nodders vs. skidders, rapha vs. lycra&fluo.

I like nice stylish things too, but some Rapha's designs are lazy for me to pay the full price. The cut is perfect, but that's not all.

By the way, I'm typing this wearing micro lycra trunks:-) Nice, light and comfy. Some french sport underwear. You should try it.

  • Oh, this forum looks nice on the mobile!

My point is, it's a personal choice. I really like Rapha and James looks lovely in it. I'd just expect tiny bit more. It reminds me of the sports clothing my dad used to bring me when I was a little boy behind the Iron Curtain (my dad's was what was called "a sports official"). I know it's supposed to retro, but a baby blue jersey with a white armband doesn't cut it for me:-)
but then, it's me. There's no need for personal attack, though.
The structure of posts on this forum is like this:
    a. I like Colnago
    b. I like Moser and you are a cunt
    c. You are both cunts who earn over £20k a year when others struggle to put skunk and Superbrew on the table :-)

  • we're not rapha's target market. funny how many of us wear it though.

  • ^^ from a man who makes his own shirts!

  • we're not rapha's target market. funny how many of us wear it though.

indeed. my mum loves the silk scarf with the all over repeat of sprockets that i gave to her. looks nice on her too.

i swear this is the truth.

  • Went to Condor and picked up an absolute bargain. Not an XXL Rapha gillet, but a pair of the most comfortable Mavic gloves ever.

  • went down and everything xxl - dang.

nice guy selling the stuff though, a man of speedplay cleats.

  • went down and everything xxl - dang.
    .

Maybe we should buy one item per two people size M and start riding tandems?

  • Just eat more pies.

  • more pies

  • I think I'm about to give up smoking again. This plus pies...

And after straight to the Rapha's clearance page :-)
To be honest, I don't think cycling clothes look good on me when I'm fat.

  • Nimhbus, I know this is a stance you've taken before and so you're probably really bored of the 'nice/pricey' thing, but if you stop and think for a moment you might appreciate the subtle difference between making a profit and profiteering.

well, i decided to double check the difference in the definitions of the two words - Profiteering is making a profit in an unethical way, for example: selling essential goods for an inflated price in times of emergency.

Can you tell me what it is you find unethical about what Rapha do?

Or is it just unethical that you can't afford it....

  • I think we should boycot rapha, sidi, archies grobags

these companies have us over a barrel

damn them with their sophisticated design and high quality

Making benchmark products that people actually wish to buy rather than just cheap tat that we can merely afford

  • can we add colnago, bob jackson, mercian and tomassini to that list? their stuff is quite expensive as well.

  • Exactly. i think we should take Rapha to the European Court of Human Rights for their cruel and unethical treatment of low income cyclists.

  • What's Rapha?

isn't it that appropriation of the St Raphael jersey? never realised they were making a business of it.

  • i think the essence of the whinge up is that these companies make the market leading products and some people feel frustrated that there is not more choice

however they articulate their frustration by attacking the manufacturer for elevated costs (though compare rapha merino with other manufacturers, rapha socks with other manufacturers, or their bibs with other bib shorts using similar quality products) being unethical, exploiting their customers, exploiting the factory workers, etc etc

    yawn yawn yawn yawn

    its is so fucking tedious

  • Head here James.

    or

You keep coming back to this and I really don't know why. I'm not in any way bitter because it's in some way unobtainable. As I've already stated I have a few items from them and other brands mentioned in the same light. Besides I really don't think you have any right to assume what people are earning.

FWIW, My assumption that Rapha inflate their prices artificially has been quashed after a bit of digging around, though they do bask in their exclusivity.

If it's easier for you just to tell me I'm having a whinge then I'll not bother pursuing this.

Can you tell me what it is you find unethical about what Rapha do?

I wasn't saying that Rapha is an unethical company. That's a provocative way of putting it. I was suggesting that they can afford to be greedy because there's no competition, though as I've pointed out there is no evidence to suggest that they are being greedy other than the seemingly excessive RRP of their products.

  • FWIW, My assumption that Rapha inflate their prices artificially has been quashed after a bit of digging around, though they do bask in their exclusivity.

Yes, it all depends how and were the clothing is made. Some knock things off quickly and for peanuts with a £100 profit on top. I hope it isn't the case with Rapha (at least it's quality doesn't indicate it at all)

  • it is a bit expensive though, isn't it?

  • Nice tho Murtle.

  • it is a bit expensive though, isn't it?

    But nice.

  • Wait, what I meant - it's not that expensive and it could be nicer. There.

I don't commute,* fixie skidders* aren't my scene, I don't dress like this everyday, so it would have to be supernice for me to spend the money on it
