I expect that if you're not extra large or extra small, then it may be a waste of time. Anything that was good will be appearing on the bay in a day or two. 'New' Rapha stuff on ebay seems to get up to 90% of it's retail price, which is expensive...

......but nice. I am XL (well, Rapha Xl anyway) so might pop down then
-
• #2479
Yeah I've got a medium Rapha rain jacket, but I may have to do some work on my belly to get the zip to shut! Or is it supposed to be that 'snug'!
-
• #2480
Rapha's medium is like Topman's medium = skinny hipster. If you wear size M clothes (42'' "chest"), you'd need to go for large.

I know that now!

You should check sizing on their website beforehand, because ti's not what it seen (and these clothes supposed to fit snug).
It's like with these women, who are really size 12, but they think they are size 8, because they buy size 8-10 from George ASDA :-) -
• #2483
That'll teach me from buying off t'internet. It'll be okay in the summer with a short sleeved base layer and a bit of sucking in. But it probably won't rain then!

Sorry, I'm reading it and I'm not sure what I meant...

It makes my stomach literally sick to the stomach to think of these FUCKTARDS snafling all the good stuff then flogging it on eBay. Still, they've to to live with themselves.

medium clothes 42 inch chest?
so whats extra large then?

Condor should limite the amount of purchases on the same item. One bloke literally pick up the whole box of hats. Ahole. I think they're putting out new stuff today but staff get the pickings of what few mediums there were.
not impressed.

Rapha sales are a waste of time... Been to two and vowed never to go again...
-
• #2489
So I got up and thought 'fuck it I'll just go', I'm now outside and the only person in the queue! There are boxes out so hopefully some decent stuff. Wicksie if you PM me what sort of hat you want I'll see what I can do

+1, it's really frustrating when there's all this stuff but none of it quite right in size etc.
Rapha stuff is so nice but quite pricey. I hope someone gives them a run for their money to get some competition going. The prices are fucking extraordinary and the commentary breathtakingly pretentious. Also they are so unashamedly geared towards milking their niche it's annoying. Swrve et al are all well and good but they lack the slick website, gloss and details to compete IMO.

I don't know. Usually M is somewhere between 38-40(42), depends on the make and type. L is 42-44, XL is 44-46 and so on.
For some reason recently some designer/brand clothes have size L as 40" which is really annoying - like they make clothes for their emaciated mates only. Fuck off, Shoreditch twats! -

Can we all not just leave this alone now? there really is no law that says you have to buy Rapha, believe it or not! The fact is, as your post implies, it IS better than all the other shite out there, and by quite some margin, but a certain percentage of the population is not prepared to pay for it, or resent they fact that they can't afford it.
And shame on them for 'milking' their 'niche'. what a bunch of massive cunts, starting a business of their own, making nice stuff and selling it to as many people that want it. How annoying of them, yes. why don't they just pack it all in instead? they've had their moment in the sun, after all.

Or perhaps it's not that nice at all?
Perhaps some are a bunch of sheep who gets things, because other sheep gets things? -

Believe it or not I can't be arsed to get into it either and I wholeheartedly respect them for making good stuff and a successful business. Furthermore I believe that people have every right to profit from doing things properly. However, the astronomical mark-up leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and smacks of a lack of rivals (as you rightly pointed out). I'd very much like to buy a load of their lovely things but I'm not sure I would even if I had all the money in the world, because I can't respect their bullshit and blatant profiteering. This is of course irrelevant to everyone else, but it's my opinion and this is a forum for discussion. I care because I admire them in many other ways and because they are a prominent London cycling brand.
Anyway, my post was about competition, not Rapha themselves. Please do not railroad my (perhaps erroneous) contribution, I wasn't just having a moan. Maybe I'll start my own clothing company.

i don't see much difference between rapha products and expensive bits of plastic to protect your top tube or a pair of cranks with 3 letters stamped on them or a frame made from steel pipe in japan and painted with sparkly paint.
there is a willing doe-eyed market ready to pay for the exclusivity and perceived attributes of a luxury item.
you are not exempt from this irrational purchasing. -

I was 5th or 6th in the queue and picked up loads of stuff. All you skinny haterz can suck my balls.
2 baselayers, 3 jerseys, armwarmers and a fixed shirt. -
• #2498
Rapha prices, although high, are not high compared to other bike specific brands. Take Assos for example, they are at least or more then what rapha charges. The campagnolo jackets and jerseys cost the same that the rapha stuff does. The base layers cost about the same that Icebreaker or similar stuff does.
the few rapha pieces I have are not made in China or Taiwan but in the UK. -
• #2499
Nimhbus, I know this is a stance you've taken before and so you're probably really bored of the 'nice/pricey' thing, but if you stop and think for a moment you might appreciate the subtle difference between making a profit and profiteering.
While they cannot be blamed for pushing their prices as far as possible, after all consumers have few decent alternatives to Rapha's products, it strikes me as unhealthy (in terms of choice) when you see middle-aged disciples falling over themselves to get £15 off a £50 t-shirt.

rapha dont mess around with loads of types of shorts etc, so there is no economy range
you get what you pay for, their stuff is generally well made and from all accounts their returns/repairs policy is pretty good (never had to use this myself)
maybe all the people who have been buying rapha have sized down over the last couple of years, hence the large and xl surplus at the last couple of sales
i got a medium shirt for £10 and large legwarmers for £15 yesterday
as good value as anything else on the market, when you look at the price of their baselayers they are similar to other merino ones out there and made of much better merino and cut better than say the endura baa baa ones
never really understood the sour grapes, they make attractive (well by cycling standards) clothes, if you want utter technical garments go for assos, but if you want something a little less star trek go for rapha
So is going tomorrow morning a complete waste of time?
