Got the merino gloves in the sale off ebay.. I hope they're warmer than they feel..

Waffer thin top where exposed to elements. Cardboard thick palms that don't need wind protection.

Tempted to wear mine on opposite hands with the grip palm facing up.

They're great as a bridge between mitts and proper gloves, but don't work as liners at all.

Edit : also much better if you have warm arms, I used them for indoor skiing and with a Down jacket they were warm enough

Re amfibs, maybe a newer version thing, but I found them fine for flexibility. (obviously less so than lycra, but not enough to complain about)

Must be my epic thighs.

To be honest they're a foot too long for me. So maybe the areas designed to flex aren't lining up for me.

Not the best gloves in the Rapha range, any sort of wind and your hands freeze, if you have a pair of the merino glove liners it makes them more usable, but the winter gloves then become a better option.

One interesting thing about Amfibs is they seem to be the only PI tights with legs that are not overly long for me. My other PI tights bunch up around the ankles, but not the Amfibs. Another thing is that the fabric gets softer and more comfortable with more wear and wash cycles. I initially wasn't sure if I liked the Amfibs because they were kind of stiff feeling and also much warmer than regular tights. At first I only wore them on the coldest days, when temps were near or below freezing. Now I wear them much more often, though usually on days with cold mornings below 40 and afternoons below 50 F. I mostly wear them commuting because I am out early in the morning when temperatures are the coldest, and they are fantastic for that

I disagree - but it depends how your hands are. I have hot hands and so am in mitts for the majority of the time. Have been in merino for the last couple of weeks and still in them this morning. Was probably marginal today, but 5-15 degrees and they are great. Last winter I wore Winter gloves for no more than a couple weeks, otherwise merino every day. YMMV.

Old hands feel no cold.

I was a bit boil-in-the-bag on Saturday, with a merino base layer, jersey and race cape.

Rather, I was a sous vide - warm enough, but nowhere for the sweat to go, and I was drenched under the cape.

What jacket is going to let the sweat out?

I'd go wind jacket over that lot. Or bin the jersey and go pro team jacket.
