i fancy one of those, just have a hard time swallowing the price tag.
would you say it's wind-cheatingness is enough that, if paired with a warm winter jersey ( rapha, natch) and base-layer, it might negate the use of a winter jacket, on all but the coldest days?
I'm mostly wearing the orange one with a merino base layer only & it's easily warm enough at the moment, as it gets colder, just add layers....but for when it is really cold the classic softshell is superb..... found out that the owner of Rapha lives next door to my wife's friend - next time they see him, they will tell him I paid for his house
ps I have a black XL stowaway going spare - hardly used -open to a sensible offer (£ only!)

you don't need a warm winter jersey with it imho unless it's long sleeve and you omit the base layer.
i run quite warm so it needs to be below 8-9° for me to wear it.
usually rapha base+jersey underneath.
i need to get some thin armwarmers so i can just have a jersey on underneath to use the pockets, when commuting i just have the base+jacket as i don't want pockets under my bag.
if i'm brutally honest you could get a pertex windshirt type thing instead but:it wouldn't have the cut/fit of the rapha, nice high collar
the neat drawstrings
the orange colour and reflectives which mean you don't look like a fluro yellow nodder or a blue altura fan.i'm going to wear it for most of my winter riding and can't see me needing more than roubaix bibs/merino base/jersey underneath it. i have a thicker jersey if it's just above freezing.
what has impressed me is how well it deals with a bit of rain.
if you feel like treating yourself then you will not be disappointed. if it leaves you with no spare cash to buy other winter riding essentials then think again. -

sounds good.
i'll check to see if i deserve it or not.
i probably do.

i think the winter jersey is one of the best things they make
teamed with a base layer and stowaway jacket it will cover you for most eventualities - though of course if it pisses down you will get wet
the winter jersey appears to wick better than the softshell but is slightly less water repellent. but as the softshell gets soaked through in a downpour it does not really offer a great deal more protection
the newer winter jerseys have a lining at the front to make them more windproof
my experience is that if its pissing down it can be better to put the stowaway on under the winter jersey as it slows down the water getting through to you

DJ, you are preaching to the choir. i have 2 winter jerseys, picked up another one in last years sample sale. agree with you, it's a great bit of kit.I also have 2 long sleeve jerseys, i find those so handy for most of the year round when it's not sunny.
also one of my favs are the bibshorts - again, you can get them in the sales for £50, and they're so nice, so much better than any other bib i have.

Rapha (those posh cycling clothing people who sometimes do the rapha pub cycling game roller thingy)
are having a late night shopping evening at condor on the 8th where you can get 10% off rapha's exquisite cycling products.
nice.. if a little pricey.
but so worth it. -

I was in the market for a nice all round warm winter wind resistant jacket. I considered buying one of the Rapha jackets but in the end I decided they were nice but a little pricey. So I opted for a Gore one instead which is equally nice, but not quite as pricey

If they gave more of a discount, it wouldn't be a bit pricey any more. Image ruined.

My girlfriend bought me one of the new winter hats for my birthday. Delightfully nice, if a little pricey. Thankfully I didn't have to pay!

The zips on the underarms of my classic softshell were a bit scratchy until I trimmed them down. Does the job though. Bit pricey mind.

I got the classics pack in the summer with 20% off and free postage. I will admit. Still a little pricey though.

Thinking I may go along to the condor cycles evening if only to try on the jackets as I'm 6ft 5 and struggle to get ones that fit from any manufacturer.
I've been looking for a wet weather/winter jacket that's stowable and they all seem pricey so if they fit I may have to cough up the cash.
anyone have any comments about their sizing? -
• #2295
I find there sizing all over the place, I'm pretty sure I've got tops in L, XL and XXL. Not tried on any of thier jackets but I reckon you'll be OK, I'm 6'6 and find thier long sleeve stuff fine

cheers will be good to actually try stuff before parting with cash as with all the online stores

I have this hat. I do love it. It even seems to be waterproof, or as good as.
I got mine in the 'sale'. I think five of your English pounds were taken off. A mere bagatelle; a gesture, if you will, to the state of non-priceyness, but one that thankfully detracted from its essential Rapha-ness not a jot.

Apologies, mine is the knitted hat. I tried on the new Winter hat at Condor and I looked a bit gimpish, saw the knitted hat and assumed they'd started making it in a variety of materials. Upon perusing the Rapha website just now I've realised it's a different style altogether.
And compared to the Winter hat it is fucking pricey. I paid less for a pair of Levi's Jeans.

I have last years winter hat. black. all black. not like the new one.
it may have been pricey, but it was a birthday present. so i didn't pay. -
