So, are we thinking no more sample sales in Manchester?

+1 for Castelli Estremo, I really suffer from cold fingers but these have stopped that. They're good down to -5 with liners. Anything over 7-8 degrees and they can get a bit sweaty on rides over an hour

I'm selling the black XL Softshell I bought off @dan earlier in the year... I got the thumb bits fixed by Rapha but haven't ever worn it... 9.7/10 condition, yours for the £90 I paid Dan for it... Also got a pair of the smart trousers they do (not sure which model) for sale as well, black, W34 (IIRC), 9/10 condition, only worn half a dozen times... The waist button fell off and I rather cack-handedly sewed it back on... Easy to fix, doesn't affect the trousers at all... Yours for £60... PM me...

Great. That is mine slain.

Wore them all last winter on my commute, liked them. Will be good for your purposes, but never worn them with merino liners.

Can anyone comment on differences between the merino mesh and the standard merino baselayers?
-
• #17836
Merino mesh is very thin. They're very nice, but a bit specialist. Standard merino baselayers probably a better allround option.

• #17837
^ correct.
-
• #17838
^^ Yeah that. I'm really liking mine, as its cooler than a full layer and I run pretty hot. I wouldn't wear it in hot weather unless I was going to be drowning in sweat though, and even then I would probably go for a synthetic one

Cheers, guys. So the mesh is more of a autumn / winter thing whereas the standard is a winter item? Hard to choose correctly for north Italy as it doesn't get so cold unless in the mountains. Would be mainly wearing it under jersey/gabba jersey/gilet combos.
Also read that Stannard wore the mesh at Omloop so perhaps that is a better option?

before the annual glove debate kicks off, can I just get in here w/this: these are the only gloves you need through winter (even if scottish!) (like me) & they cost buttons

these are the only gloves you need...
...if you want hands that stink like a tramps ballsack on a summer's day.

You actually ride fast, IIRC? I'd think a standard merino one might get a bit warm under a gabba. I wore a normal vest under a PTJ in some pretty cold/pouring rain conditions last winter and found it almost too warm

oh aye. no doubt. small price to pay tho

That or the Defeet merino Duras glove.
Kept my hand surprisingly warm.

Put on some extra heft recently? Got a medium LS Rapha jersey?
Trade: my XL Cross Jersey (LS, padded shoulder, 3 years old, but excellent condition) for your medium jersey. Ideally a Cross jersey, but all considered. Sells possible, but trade preferred.

Only for jerseys bought this year, unfortunately.

Yes. As long as it's not super cold. Or you stop and then use them once you're cold from stopping.
If you're caught out in the rain, they'll keep your hands warm as they're merino.
The Rapha deep winter gloves are ace. So warm only had to use the liners a couple of times last year. From what I can remember, they only got soaked twice on some very long wet club runs.
