• It looks like a Winfield red packet.
I reckon it should say "Bogan", instead of "Poseur"

• JOL http://thugbot.net/features/lebowski/

lol, hours of fun. actually went bowling last night in queens way.

Brandt: Who's this gentleman, Dude?
Walter: Who'm I? I'm a fucking veteran!

• Where is the sample sale info from? Usually get an email from them?
Might pop in, want to see the exhibition anyway - 2 birds; 1 stone.

• dogsballs
Mouse @ RPM: lol!

Let me tell you something, pendejo. You pull any of your crazy shit with us, you flash a piece out on the lanes, I'll take it away from you, stick it up your ass and pull the fucking trigger 'til it goes "click."

is this the most quoted movie on this site??
I reckon it's the most quoted film on any decent site.

you can basically get through life with nothing but quotes from TBL, withnail and the first (early) star wars films

• I think Life of Brian is up there too.

• a woman?!

how about "you can be my wing man any time?!" , for all those pink shirt condor riders :P :D

• velocity boy I think Life of Brian is up there too.

oh yes.

of course.

I was even doing that one at work today..

"throw him to the floor again, Sir?"

• i went to the exhibition today. the guy let me take the bike right into the gallery, which was a first. some of the photos were good, but there really weren't that many. at all.

• Why are Rapha so expensive? Are they a brand with a lot of history or our there products intwined with gold thread?

• neither.

• but they are pandering to a market with lots of money, i.e people who don't race, who purchase pinarello or colnago and think of nothing of head-to-toeing it in assos (very very expensive). sometimes these purchases can be justified, in comfort terms, life expectancy of the garment, type of riding you do, but there is nearly always a cheaper, more logical, slightly less comfy alternative. i have a rapha jersey i got in the sale, it cost £40, less than half price, still a lot of money, i wear it when doing very long rides and it is very comfortable, more than twice as comfy than something that costs half as much. having said that, if it was £90 the rules change, as everyone on this forum will testify, and it becomes overpriced. some of the arguments are a bit reductive - 'i'd never wear rapha' etc - why would you? you don't spend very long in the saddle and ride brakeless, it's not what it's for. i don't see anyone tearing it up on sundays, mallet in hand, in lycra and roadshoes, there's no need. if there was, the hostility may evaporate slightly. but not fully, because it is still overpriced. and people do resent the appropriation of style - which is sort of justified, but sort of not, because all of us are guilty of attempting to buy into the style of yesteryear when the world was simpler place and men were men. if we weren't we wouldn't be riding lugged up steel frames. we'd be riding backwards and skid-stopping on titanium/carbon behemoths.

• There was a Colnago C40 on freecycle yesterday..

obviously not for long.

I think that's the best explanation of Rapha I've read yet. I think their stuff looks great and I bet it wears well, but damn it's expensive. Even if I could afford it, I doubt I'd be able to bring myself to buy anything.

• hippy, dogsballs - you knows it...

• Bring 'em 'round! :)

+1

I think it is quite overpriced, but so are lots of things in life. Is it worth it? Things are worth whatever people are prepared to pay for them, and they don't seem to be struggling financially so good luck to them.

p.s, I tear it up on sundays!!

• damn, hippo beat me to it. wayno you'll love the piece i donated to the armstrong build, hehe!

• I've gotta build it still.. god.. got the GT back and built that up this arvo.. cept I seem to have lost the stem 'wedge' and the cables are too frayed to fit back into brakes and deraillers. Fscksticks!
Need some snakes to cheer me up.. hint hint ;)

• bring em tomorrow, catford fuel innit - d'ya think there'll be somewone there with an urn selling tea?

• a little urn

• I think I've got a bag left.. if I remember I shall bring. Totally not organised. 4-fscking hours to get to deptford and back.. then mech time.. then grr time..

• from the rapha site:
"The Continental bikes are black. But they’re not just any black, they’re Sacha White and Coat Paint Shop black. Sacha White of Vanilla Bicycles worked with lead painter Jason Webber of Coat, a new Portland area custom paint shop, to design and execute the most classic and timeless, yet fresh, color scheme possible. "

I beg your flippin' pardon? So you've asked the most expensive bike builder and a custom paint shop to come up with something rad and they painted the bikes black. Not just any black, no.. Black that Sacha White pointed to in a catalog and black that Jason Webber bought at walmart. Riiiight..

• Phew. When i actually saw the bikes on the site, i was like "Wait, you mean they're just any old black??"

• thank fuck.

• Seriously... WTF? They should pair up with Witcomb and just be done with it:
Rapha Fixed Tops

£ 140 !

London has got an independent bagmaker, and an independent hat maker... where are our clothes makers*? This ridiculous pricing from Rapha is just nuts. I've bought Rapha before but now it's nuts, totally over-priced.

No cycling shirt is worth £ 140. None.

• Yeah, I know Rapha are London based. But you know what I mean.
