Icebreaker are as good in my experience

I have these, and they are on sale at the moment

IMO yes. It's wind and waterproof, pretty light and conforms nicely to the body. I could only wear the softshell in all but the coldest of temps >5˙. So much so I sold mine a while back.
Speaking of which I have a hardshell unworn if anyone is interested? Pmzpls
Blue, large.
I'll give it a few days before it goes to ebay.

If I already have a waterproof race cape type thing (non rapha) that packs up small and lives in a bag/pocket/strapped to the saddle rails, that plus the softshell should deal with most weather, right? Debating whether to get one... Or a hardshell. Or to put my wallet back in my pocket and walk away.
Also, they've cut the price of the jeans.

Think that's your answer right there...

How do they compare to Rapha in the smugness factor?
-
• #14458
Softshell deal with weather very well, even on the worse of weather, you're only likely to get a little damp on the arm.

I have been getting mixed reviews of the Softshell vs the Hardshell.
For a heavy sweater which is the least boil in the bag?

i now have the obligatory follow up question.

Softshell, you cna unzip it. It's not tapered seams so breathable. HArdhell is 100% waterproof so not breathable.

Yeah, goonz, you don't like them, fair enough. I'm specifically looking for something warm.

Not sure why you think I dont like them? I already have the softshell

Cheers so hardshell definitely not for me then.

Has anyone here with the Castelli Nanoflex arm/leg warmers noticed any stretch in the over time. Just received the armwarmers and after wearing them for 5 mins I can barely feel my arms! Im thinking I need to size up, though the large seems like it'll be too big - Im far from being Schwarzenegger.
(Sidenote: awesome, the spellcheck corrects Schwarzenegger for you.....)

What size you got? I went for M and they fit fine

smug level is probably around a 5. With Rapha pushing 9/9.5

I got M too - Im 185, slim enough build. Maybe theyre supposed to be nice and tight, but it feels like its cutting of my blood supply...

Rapha, snug but a bit smug.

evans are doing a sale on their team sky rapha stuff. up to 50% off some bits.
if you don't mind the sky logo you can pick up pro-team bibs etc for a hefty discount. or wiggo vest baselayers for £30
I got one of the merino hats for £15 to run in.
edit: this is on their site
Are the bibs the same as Rapha's own Pro Team Bibs?
Also I've got to say I was pretty impressed with the Classic Wind Jacket this weekend (Icebreaker + Torm Jersey and armwarmers + CWJ) so thanks to those who suggested it as the versitile option.
My only issue is I'm still suffering a bit from the cold on my chest. I don't know if it's an asthma thing combined with the damp and the wind. But once off the bike I end up coughing a lot. Any ideas for something to protect my chest? I was wondering about using a newspaper.

Good question.
More importantly. After stating that I like the Rapha stuff for fit, and nice simple use of quality materials. And not for hipster points. Why am I unable to part with cash for stuff with SKY written on?

Windproof vest/ t-shirt?
A lycra neck warmer does me most of the time. Seal the neck of my jacket. But my gore windproof T-shirt is bloody clever, if somewhat violent towards nipples.

Because that nice, but pricey and just a bit OTT.

I finally got round to trying my PTJacket today. Despite Mr. Garmin saying the temperature got down to 0.4degC, and with me wearing only a Gore baselayer underneath it, it did the job admirably.
I can also report back that, unsurprisingly, Assos LL Bonka 716 winter tights are pretty damn fine too, even if they do have a very silly name.
The only downside was that I decided, for some mysterious reason, not to wear overshoes or winter boots. Ow ow ow ow ow.
