Much as I love merino it offers zero protection against windchill. So, for riding up here, I'd want full coverage, with these, far more than I'd want a gilet. That said, a gilet is on the short list.
On the sort of day when you stuff arm warmers into your jersey pocket. You probably could just be wearing a LS jersey, and maybe just use a thinner base layer. The same is true of 3/4 bibs instead of separate knee warmers. At least up here. But I love cycling in short sleeves, and short bibs, so much that its worth the hassle of layering.

I wore the arm warmers today with my softshell over it. Felt pretty good but could have possibly gone without them.
This weather is so tricky to dress for!

Does anyone have a white lightweight cap they'd consider selling? Online they are all sold out.

Does anyone here own the Lapelled Jacket?
I have a bunch of interviews and presentations coming up and I'd like a nice smart-casual jacket. Usually I hate wearing suit jackets and blazers but this looks really comfortable, and if I can ride to my appointments (and smart parties) in it then even better.
It is, however, quite pricey. An investment?

Sounds like loads. I'm in softshell jacket, with just a synthetic mesh base layer under.

£300 for just a blazer??? You could buy a Ted Baker or Hugo Boss complete suit for that.
Some of the things Rapha make/sell are just crazy.

I had a SS BL and SS Jersey over with arm warmers and the softshell.
I got my softshell off ebay and not sure but to me it feels a little light weight? I did a check and its not the lightweight softshell but it does not feel as heavy as my softshell gilet...

I got out the merino hoody for its first autumn appearance this year. Long sleeve jersey underneath. Was 8 degrees when I set off. Toasty.

Not yet, but I'm also tempted. I've got a Brompton Oratory jacket, but the Rapha one is a bit smarter with most of the useful features the Oratory has.
Hmmmm. Will try and resist a little bit longer.

I'm pretty broad-shouldered and usually suit jackets and blazers, especially here in Japan, are made for skinny fuckers and they're really tight across there. The pleated shoulders, stretch fabric and such are a lot of what's attracting me to the Rapha one.
Also you can apparently shake out creases, which is great since I travel a lot.

Really? That'd be like a sauna for me.

Hardly. I'm going to try it on on Saturday, to start with. If it doesn't fit right then I won't even consider it.
I was looking for first-hand experience with it (fit, detailing, is it nicely made?) but just got the usual Rapha dogpile. Oh well!

Suit from Ted Baker? Ugh.
£300 Boss suit will be made from a horrible fabric too. Better off buying a really good jacket (not necessarily from Rapha, in fact probably not fromRapha)

For a waterproof layer, Race Cape, or Rain jacket? my current waterproof defences are poor, to non-existent. Wind jacket is great and been serving me proud, but something I can stuff in a jersey and brake out in the showers is now looking more essential.
any pros/cons from usage here? appreciate any advice.
It has to be really really cold for you to wear arm warmers under a jacket instead of just armwarmers and a gilet over the jersey. Does not get that cold in south England more than a few times a year in my experience
